plastic end tanks
 
is it ok to reseal a front mount intercooler that has plastic tanks, with rtv silicone?

silicone is too soft itll probably burst. need some kind of epoxy. fiberglass/cf resin maybe?

no! its from a lancia, I used rtv to seal it but haven't use it yet, do you think jd weld will hold metal to plastic? this guy that do these things told the silicone will hold up, but if it fails I will switch to jb weld, will it seal plastic and ulluminum together?, I will be deployed for a couple of months so it will be a little before I use it.

we used to do this with renault 5 intercoolers all the time (to remove the internal thermostatic flap) , silicon the bit that the plastic sits inthen put the tanks on, bend the tags over and silicon again, to finish off, "strap" the cooler round the tanks and core with a LONG worm drive jubilee clip, this also stops the tanks blowing off under high boost
