place to rebuild turbo, good and cheap and fast.

so my 60/63 is smokin like hell everytime i try to drive it. and i have adjusted the oil pressure many times even as low as 20-25psi, and still smokes. it does seem to be leakin oil out ofthe bottome after the car stops (and i do let it cool down first). but there is no oil leakin out of the compressor side or the exhaust side.

does it sound like it needs a rebuild?

thanx

check your oil return, make sure you have the pcv system setup for boost, make sure your ringlands aren't fried. if all is well there then yes the turbine seal ring is probably bad. I have a turbo rebuilder that does awesome work. rebuilt balance and back to you like new for $175+shipping. warranty and all.

thats a ------- badass price................. I was going to suggest buying a rebuild kit yourself.... and rebuilding it........ especially is all that is needed is a cold side oil seal and a hot side oil seal....... mine poped (hot side oil seal).... got the little metal ring.... replaced it in about 35 minutes... put it all back together.... spun nice.... threw it on the car .... LIKE NEW !!!!!!! woohoo........

definitely look into that guy for 175+shipping..... up here in canada they want $650 for the rebuild...... I could go buy another turbo for that price..........rebuilt direct from garrett......

[/quote]i agree, then you wouldnt have to worry about balancing at all. and you have warranty.

just make sure it's not something else before you waste your money though. check the things I posted above. majority of the time its one of those problems. I've had customers try to make me look bad becase "I gave them back a bad turbo" one of them had a kinked oil return and another had bad ring lands. and my cousin didn't have the pcv system setup for boost and it would smoke like crazy at high boost because the crankcase pressure would fource pressure back into the turbo and eventually caused the turbine seal ring to fail.

you can buy turbine piston rings (or compressor seals) seperatley. Try turbochargers.com, that's where i got my replacement piston ring, plus the gap is staggered so it seals better

well, im pretty sure its the turbo. oil is leakin from the bottom of the exhaust side where it meets the center section. its not smokin any where else. my car was smokin because there was some oil on the block, but now i just need a new oil pan gasket cuz it still leaks a little bit...

but i do think its the turbo. the exhaust side got all coaked lookin, and it smokes like a mother....

so how do i get in contact with that guy who will do it for $175? I would definetly jump on that.

Any chance you can explain how pressure in the crankcase would cause the turine seal ring to fail? I can see it causing blowby which would make it smoke but i dont see how not having a good pcv system can in anyway affect the turbo.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that maybe the PCV system, if not modified for boost - could cause positive pressure in the oil pan? And that would cause a drainage problem. I could be very wrong tho.

sounds to me like the turbo is wasted. try a restrictor on your oil line.

you are correct. if it becomes excessive enough it will cause the turbo return to back up and leak past the turbine seal ring wich over time could lead to failure.

anyone ever used blaast performance? i talked to him and he told me $150 to rebuild, balance and that also includes the shipping back so u could say $175 for everything by the time u ship to him. he also gives u a six month warranty. i was just wondering if any one has had any experience with him? he can also rebuild those egay autocrap turbo for $250 but that is pretty much an new turbo cause he changes the center section, he uses a garrett center on them, and give a warranty on the also.

Re: place to rebuild turbo, good and cheap and fast.

I used him. I had bought a garret/turbonetics trash on ebay destroyed that in a couple days, had no warrenty so the guy on ebay sold me a new chra for $100, that was still junk so i decided to have blaast rebuild it and i got it back with more shaft play then when i sent it to him, but he warrentied it so i sent it back and he told me i pretty much need a new shaft because the groove was to wide for seal. so he sold me a used garret one for 100 bucks. Its been good sense no shaft play. ended up costing 250 for rebuild and 100 for new chra from the guy on ebay. I will never buy ---- off ebay again, but i would probally defenitly do buisness with blaast again.
