pinging

hey guys whats up
im having a little problem and I was wondering if someone could help me out.
my setup 1988 crx b16a t3 super 60 turbo running 5lb with the hack. well my problem is with my 440 dsm injectors in under normal driving it pings under acceleration but with the stock injectors it doesnt does this mean the 440s are junk?
any help would be great

could have fualty injector, how does the car run with the 450s?

Re: pinging

well sometimes it runs good with the 440s but sometimes it hesitates kinda like a bog on takeoff then it clears out. but it alwase pings a little under acceleration.under boost its fine from what I can tell

Re: pinging

5psi on the hack (assuming around 40ish% AFC correction) would put your WOT 5psi timing at around 28-30*. (assuming a pr3/pwo ecu)
Normal NA WOT timing for a B16 is 24*. So you've added 5psi of boost and instead of retarding the ignition as per the norm, you've added in about 4-6* of advance.
This is why you might have read that it is recomended to run no less than 10psi on the hack, so as to max out the map sensor and end up w/ no additional ignition advance. Then just retard at the dizzy.

Re: pinging

doesnt pinging mean that its running a little lean??

Re: pinging

I retarded the timing a lot at the dizzy already I thought that would help but it didnt.I didnt know it the hack affected timing that much when not in boost. it only pings under acceleration from a stop or under load not in boost.I still dont understand why it doesnt ping with the stock injectors. oh yeah im running a pr4 :'(

Re: pinging

could be the pr4 ecu on the b16. 1.6 motor with a 1.8 ecu's timing and fuel. rechip ur ecu =x its the best way

Pining is the sound your engine makes when the air/fuel misture combusts before the spark of the plug. Running lean could cause this problem, as well as low octane gas, high compression, forced induction, yada yada... If you can set the spark to fire at a point before the pressure/heat induced combustion (aka retard the timing), then you can cure it.

Re: pinging

Well, if it's not pinging when you put the stock injectors in (which is bad idea) I agree, the injectors are probably bad. Check the resistence (not sure what it should be on dsm's) and make sure there clicking.

Like leed said the timing is going to be pretty advance with the hack ( didn't know about the 10psi thing though ). Set the timing at the distributor stock and adjust the ign. maps, like -20% or whatever untill you stop pinging.

pr4 = LS
b16a = M4D VtaKKK
