what are you using for fuel management

Re:Pics of my boosted accord (56K today is your day)

the welding job on your manifold is 1 level ahead of mine, if only I could achieve that level I would pwn all.

a couple of my friend's drove that same generation accord in high school, their cars would have been nasty with a front mount poking out.

Yeah thats an A20A3 engine and its a good solid motor to boost on since the block is cast iron. A friend of mine races his accord hatch and runs over 25psi and it takes the abuse no problem.

real nice looking car, those accords handle awsome. i'd like to see it on a lower suspension and with a front lip...oh too sweet. congrats! the install looks way clean.

Re:Pics of my boosted accord (56K today is your day)

oh..i gotta half ghetto way to insulate you're upper charge pipe, the one that's close to the turbo manifold.
get some aluminum foil.
1.pull out a large section, fold it over three times.
2.pull out another section if you need it.
3.roll it around the charge pipe.
4.wrap some thin metal wire around it real tight. you can use a vise grip plier to twist the wire around in certain are like a twist tie to make the foil stay real tight to the charge pipe.
i did my lower charge pipe like that cause it's real close to the down pipe.

Re:Pics of my boosted accord (56K today is your day)

problem is that doesn't insulate the pipe, just puts a bigger surface to attract manifold heat. if you put some fiberglass or rubber or something in between it will insulate. just fyi, aluminum foil will catch fire relatively easily, I do it all the time.

Re:Pics of my boosted accord (56K today is your day)

thanks alot guys... man ill tell ya, after i make a run, the intercooler inlet is nice n toasty, but the outlet going to the TB is STONE COLD... and i mean STONE COLD. Also the mani or anything underhood really doesnt throw as much heat as i had thought it would, esp being mild steel... The front motor mount and the front beam had to be notched a little bit to get the turbo to fit with a little bit of clearance. Soo far im using an SAFC and 450cc 1g bluetop dsm injectors with a walbro 255lph intank and the msd btm. The pics make the welds look worse than they really are (just trust me) they arent the cleanest but they are damn strong. I need to hook up the MSD BTM tho when i start running over 5 psi... I want to run about 10-11 if i can then maybe more with different managemant and built engine (i have another engine im working on) we will see. It does have a golden eagle adjustable cam gear that i have set to -3 degrees retard, im not sure if thats hurting me or helping me making power with boost, that was from my N/A days... ill tell ya for 5 psi the car has one hell of a top end... The transition from vaccuum to boost is seamless, it spools up around 4k and is a little laggy, but its a .60 .63 with a lengthened wg actuator rod... so honestly i expected it to be worse. When the wastegate rod fell off the first night i took it out it boost creeped to 3psi... with no actuator on it and the wastegate completely open. Heres what i have in the car soo far:

Garrett T3 .60 .63
sillicone couplers with T bolt clamps
Custom Coach Intercooler
owner built (thats me) custom turbo mani, flanges by BMC
2.5" Charge pipes
Apexi SAFC
450cc 1g dsm bluetop injectors
MSD BTM
Aasco aluminum flywheel (8.5lb i think)
Auto to manual conversion (used to be an auto car)
1g dsm bov
open downpipe
removed a/c and back seat as well as some supporting metal in the hood, stripped trunk.
Bypassed coolant line mods, disabled intake manifold runner switching etc...
Oh yea and Stealthmode performance stainless braided oillines....

Also some other little things like gauges etc

How much boost can a stock A20A3 engine take? any ideas?

accordepicenter 09-14-2004 11:16 PM

Re:Pics of my boosted accord (56K today is your day)

sean had his to 18psi on a stock block with race fuel and excellent managemant... he only did that for a run or 2 i think, otherwise he ran 13-14psi daily, its all in the tuning, like any turbo car, its all in the tuning... Ive heard of a guy blowing his engine in an accord with 8psi... on a stock fuel pump with an fmu (he HAD to have been leaning out... he just had to be)i wanna go for 10-11 psi on the stock block and after that we will see about a built engine (all you need are forged pistons)

howcome when you bake a pizza on aluminum foil you can grab the aluminum foil and not get burnt? you can even grab the aluminum foil straight outta the oven carrying the pizza in the middle of the big foil sheet and it won't burn your fingers.

Re:Pics of my boosted accord (56K today is your day)

With rods and pistons you can really abuse them. A guy Justin that had one of nicest accord setups ran his with over 20 psi and never had any problems with the engine holding up other than headgaskets. And the other guy Johnny runs in the mid 10's with his but its a full race setup but still using the A20A3 block and head. Sometimes i wish i stuck with the A20A3 as of the rare JDM Accord B20A that many dont know exists. But its still closed deck but aluminum block so its not all that bad. On the good side its DOHC and i had a few more choices with aftermarket stuff.

Re:Pics of my boosted accord (56K today is your day)

you must have magic fingers. the last time I checked aluminum is a metal, metals conduct heat, it's one of their properties.

have you ever put a pizza in the oven with the cardboard under it? it catches on fire, you might want to avoid doing this.

Re:Pics of my boosted accord (56K today is your day)

yeah cant lose with b20 either rob, its one hell of an engine...(not b20a5 etc... b20a... its different) yeah i think johnny o was running stock rods too for the longest time (maybe he still is???) yeah the A20 is cast iron closed deck and very strong internals (except for cast pistons, ring lands) and yea justin ran 20+ psi on just forged pistons alone

87na_rx7 09-14-2004 11:32 PM

Re:Pics of my boosted accord (56K today is your day)

the b20a for the accord isnt that hard to find... now finding a 5spd tranny for that is a challenge

RobT5580 09-15-2004 08:11 AM

Re:Pics of my boosted accord (56K today is your day)

All the places that carried the B20A that i know of don't have them anymore. Im sure there are still a few around but a bunch of place had no idea what it was for. Some thought it was the prelude b20a and im guessing a pist off customer brought it back and they were stuck with them. I know a few guys that picked up the engines for dirt cheap because of that. And yes the 5 speed is very hard to come by unless you luck out. But i kinda like having it rare so there are 100 accords with the same swap running around.

I must say Jay, the car is sick. A TOTAL sleeper: 88 black accord, after factory.... factory rims. UNTIL you see............................................... . a BID ASS INTERCOOLER or to un-suspecting RICERS.... a big damn radiator!! lol nice work on the fab too. it took a while but I know you'll aggree that its ALL worth it. Congrats boy, call me when you get the clutch and we'll throw her in so this wednesday you'll be there at the track with us.
