Pics of a motor mount problem im having
I have a 98 honda prelude I got my manifold the other day and the thing positions my turbo right into my motor mount. What should i do? i tried grinding some of the motor mount down but it seems like im going to have to grind it down to nothing. Im concerned about the strength of the motor mount. heres some pics... what should i do?
(this is not an SSautoCrap manifold. Its thicker much better from RS motor sports) http://www.newbieforces.com/files/lude prob 1.jpg http://www.newbieforces.com/files/lude prob 2.jpg |

wow...---- man. don't really know what to tell ya. maybe fabricate new mani and sell the one you got. you don't realy have many options.
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
is it not all put together in the pic?...maybe im not seeing the problem, it looks all assembled and not hitting
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
yea the manifold is lining up to the block. it fits in that pic but the manifold isnt bolted to the block yet.
damn i hope i can figue something out. How bad is it to have cut motor mounts? |
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
keep grinding down the mount.
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
did you try turning the turbo around the othe rway and see if it still hits?
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
If i turn the turbo around i cant fit an intake, around here with the ---- that flies around. i dont want to not run an intake
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having

Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
if thats the front motor mount, theres a guy on here, JD, who took it completely off of his accord, and its been off for over a year with no problems at all, just take that bitch out, then it'll fit
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
yikes i dont know about that... especially boosting. i guess i can just had the ---- out of it. whats the worse thing that will happen if the motor mount goes?
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
i took mine off cause the ------- bolt didnt wanna go in, so i chucked it.
alot of guys scrap em.. |
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
I got rid of my front mount, the motor shifts alot and punched a hole in the rad. I had to make a custom mount

Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having

Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
cars got 50,000 miles driven by an old ---- before me.. there good. The engine wont move when i shake it with out the frount mount.
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
i'd make a custom mount. that mount will help you put some power to the ground. its what the engine torques back on. when the engine torques (with no mount) it will twist back and ruin your other mounts quicker, not to mention something else. for a long term thing i suggest finding something. using a chain, that u can adjust or something. but i dont know much, so dont take my word for it.

Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
Shaking the engine is not an effective way to check the motor mounts. Put the car in gear (or park) with the e brake off, and rock the car by pushing it by the front bumper... back and forth.
If you have a poor mounts you will notice the engine moving excessively. Check all your mounts for splitting rubber and cracking... now and in the future. Think about polyurethane inserts, aswell as fabricating a new mount to aid in supporting your investment... I have seen a mount let go before... had to replace the mount, and one axle. |
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
can you flip the turbo the otehr way and then just clock the compressor and bearings so the oil return is down?
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
i say make your own mount also
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
What im going to do is get the polyurathane mounts and not use a front. I talked to a lot of people w/ boosted ludes that dont got a front motor mount. They said its almost impposible with the size of the turbo im running to keep a decent mount. thanks for all the help guys!

Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
the front mount is one of the most important mounts on a ff 4 cylinder. :P
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
Do not cut the mount completely off.. You can grind the ---- out of it no problem... the strength of the mount is where it is spot welded... just add some welds or dont touch the stock welds. Also you can run like 4 layers of screen instead of a filter... works great

Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
paperchaser that was ------ great
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
i still contest the front mount is very important.
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
mamke an adaptor plate that is a bit wedge shaped, and will point the turbo forward a little bit. then it'd be no prolem.
|
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
dude just grind the ---- out of it. it will be fine
I have been running no mount for the longest time and it hasn't effected ----. I am talking the tranny side mount. and the other one I had to chop to ---- too becuase the size of my turbo. |
Re:Pics of a motor mount problem im having
same here. I didnt even notice a difference without the mount. As long as your other mounts arent fucked like a cheap hooker you should be fine.
