Default picking my parts.

I am boosting my D series soon and I im picking my parts im going for a simple daily driver with some boost. I am not rich or anything so I am making this on a budget.
Plans are.
HF/cheap log manifold.
t3/t4 OR t3 turbo
eBay intercooler
eBay piping
HKS RFL eBay BOV
Waistgate __________
DSM 440’s
Greddy Blue Box
Oil lines and fitting

I may have missed something but will this kit be a nice basic kit to work with and upgrade with time?

And the greddy blue box I picked up locally for 50$ I think that’s a good deal but my main question with that is how do I tune it? Do u not need to tune? Because I know that tuning is the most important piece of the whole turbo setup.

Sorry for some way noob questions.

can't run a blue box and 450's. Well I suppose you could try.....

step 1: Ditch the blue box and buy a chipped ecu (obd0 or obd1, whichever you have)

step 2: Read up on hear and pgmfi.org about tuning it.

step 3: When your confident you can tune, buy a wideband O2 and an ostrich.


Spend a little extra time and money now and you will end up with a very nice setup that you'll be able to upgrade and retune in the future, if you desire.

so i can only use stock injectors with the bluebox?

"GReddy also employed a regulator but augmented the system with a basic electronic "GReddy black-box" specifically designed to increase injector duty cycle under boost conditions while keeping low-speed drivability just like stock. Certainly ahead of the pack the system's drawback was it could not accommodate upgraded injectors. So the next evolution of this tuning attack, in the late '90s, was the "GReddy FCU (or Blue-Box)," a pre-programmed piggy-back fuel enrichment computer that eliminated the rising rate regulator and also brought upgraded injectors to the fore."
this says that the blue box supports it.

wastegate* im sorry it was like 20 in the morning.


and last but not least i am just running the blue box for a short time till i get my ECU chipped. because im kind of scared to chip my ECU and im a cheap *** and idk anyone who will do it for cheap.

but do u need to do anykind of tuning with the blue box?

just buy a chipped one and sell the stocker on egay to some ****** thats gonna pay $140 for it.

that what ill end up doing later down the road. but for a fiew months july-aug.the blue box and stock injectors on a 14b will be ok right?

im going to buy a kit that somone on here is selling, he has everything.

i know a fair share about how everything works the two things that scare me ar tuning and tapping my block. is there a tut. somewhere on how/where to tap the block?

tap the block? i think you are confused. tap the oil pan for return, thats about it. oil feed lined bolts right up. and whats the point of asking if it will be ok, if when you get an answer you say you plan to in a few months, but not right now, then ask if its ok again. if you cannot afford to do it right, dont waste your time, wait until you can. an untuned FI setup can easily go through a motor on the first pull, much less a few months. but do what you want.

No need to tap the block . If your thinking about the oil supply to the turbo you can read up in the stickies to figure that out (not difficult to do)You didn't say how much boost you were going to run either, I was told that with an FMU you can only run 7psi safely with your stock injectors. Run that if you dare . But I have found that a chipped ECU is a much safer way to tune your FI setup. As for the 2 things your scared of 1-No need to tap the block and 2-tuning is your friend and most off all your cars friend.

Well if you bent on keeping that HF i would forget about even considering a t3/t4 because that manifold doesnt flow for ---- and your not gonna see any boost till WAY late in the powerband. For your goals a t3 is better anyways, and your MUCH better off just getting a chipped ECU right away, but if you dont agree with that, by all means, learn the hard way
