I think I have a phantom boost leak. Normally it'll start spooling around 2800 and be fully boosted by 3300 rpm's. Lately it has not been spooling untill 4K and when it does it jumps right to full boost. When it does that I also hear a humming noise in the 3K - 4K range before it boosts. I've checked all the couplers and they all appear to be on firmly. I'll get an air tank to do a boost leak test this weekend.

A friend said it could be the wastegate flapper sticking open. Has anyone heard of this happening? Anyway to test that?

Ps. I have an open dump tube so that could account for the humming.

Have you checked both sides of the manifold for exhaust leaking?

Yeah sounds like ur turbo is taking a ----, check it for shaft play and free movement.

I have not checked for exhaust leaks. I just took the downpipe off and wrapped it in DEI/heater wrap. I made sure to use thread lock and torqued everything down.

I hope the turbo is not dieing. I've only been running it for 2 months. It had no shaft play prior to installation.

I'll check both tomorow and get back to you.
