parallel turbo exhaust routing subaru
hey. have been messing with this for some time, like a week, putting in the secondary turbo in my 94 subaru legacy wagon rhd.. started out trying compound turbos, with the exhaust flowing from the stock vf-11 down under transmission then back up to other side where the brake booster would be in normal vehicle. after messing with it for a while, starting and trying to drive the beast the turbo wasw whining rediculously loud and not spooling, which was causing what i thought was an intake restriction to the smaller turbo, because it was missing really bad, and was having a hard time revving over 4 without popping a bunch. took out the t3, seems blades were contacting the compressor housing. SO.
i got another stock vf-11 and am attempting to put it in place of the t3 2nd in line in the exhaust routing. i figure if im going parallel, i'd want all the exhaust to go through both turbos, rather than 2 cylinders into each. welded it up, and with just the new turbo connected (chargepiping, wastegate closed) i just wanted to test to make sure it worked. same popping. could running the whole exhaust through 2 turbos possibly make enough backpressure to cause misfiring and no spool? if i hook just the original turbo up (close wastegate, open 2nd turbo wastegate, and intercooler piping only to single original turbo it revs ok, even with the 2nd turbo still downstream... would it be a better idea to just remake entire crossover pipe shorter (if possible heh) rather than having some severe bends and piping size changes.... or to make headers so that 2 cyl feeds each turbo.. ? sorry long post.. have been reading around this site for several years and made many honda kits, but never twin... |
I have pictures, was in a rush to post that for some reason. now just trying to figure out how to post them.
