Painting Intercooler Q's?

I just moved to some new appartments. Problem is, I can't get a garage for another 5 months due to lack of garages. Anyway, i'm paranoid as hell, and I don't want to attract attention to my car with a blingin intercooler. Planning on painting it black, but what can i use that won't ---- up the efficiency? powdercoat? light coat of spray?

Cliff notes: wanna paint my IC black. WTF do i use?

Re:Painting Intercooler Q's?

Just grab some flat black primer or some black spray paint and shoot a coat on. It won't effect the efficiency at all IMO.

Paint it with one or two coats of rustoleum spray paint and call it a day. Do this to make sure you keep it at max efficiency

Re:Painting Intercooler Q's?

good ol tyrus FMIC with some painters tape. I had a 1/4" so i had to trim it down after applying it. basically made a lil snip and ran my finger nail down and it kept the cut going. I would suggest if you dont have any in the house just measure the distance and go to homedepot and buy that exact width give or take.

You really dont want any paint in the core so painting like shown above is the only right way to do it

Re:Painting Intercooler Q's?

OMG I never thought of that. You're a damn genius. I was always worried about losing efficiency by painting it, but that clearly won't affect it.

::runs to garage to paint FMIC::

Won't the paint act an insolator? Maybe if you want you could put this diamond Grill Mesh in front IDK if that would work for you, and he might end up looking even ricier that way. From your experiances how fast do cars under tarps get raped? I am guessing pretty quick. Do u have an alarm on ur car?

Re:Painting Intercooler Q's?

Painting your FMIC will make it less efficient than having a non painted FMIC but when it comes down to losing 3-5% of the efficiency or getting your car stolen because you are showing you have a turboed honda, i think the choice is quite simple. If you dont want to paint it, thats up to you, but some of us like it.

I mean some people will just stick a filter on their turbo and not route it out of the engine bay, they are losing efficiency, some people will run a log manifold, they are losing efficiency. Pretty much the point of the matter is, spray a light coat of some thin spray paint and the efficiency loss will be no more or less than not routing yout filter out to get colder air. Simply said, do it or dont do it, its your choice. But you should definetly try not to get paint in the core.

Also, if you put mesh up you are either doing it for a reason or you are a ricer....either way your car is more noticable and will catch a theives eye. I rather make my car look less conspicuous.

I have some krylon fusion left
if its the stuff im thinkin of, its made for plastic ( i used it for my interior). i dont know how it wold hold on the ic. id say go spend 3 bucks on another can of reg black spray paint

Re:Painting Intercooler Q's?

There is always a reason for grill mesh when you have a front mount. It keeps rocks and ---- from beating up that sexy ass IC.

Re:Painting Intercooler Q's?

I don't have a garage either. I just took the fucken thing in the bathroom and used the fan to turn it into a spray booth. haha (it was too cold outside)
I didn't tape off ----. You can't get the true stealth look unless you paint the core. Everybody knows that. I hope I didn't lose too much efficiency, cause last year I was running 10.04 and this year I want to see if I can hit 10.03. :P

This weekend we painted Ghetto D's intercooler about 87 times. Everytime with a different phrase until it finally said, "Eat my balls". I think it will be plenty efficient. ;)

WERD!

Get a grill paint and paint that sucker black. People will have a hard time seeing your intercooler, not lose efficiency, keep rocks from pinging off of it, and best of all you can take the grill off whenever you want to go "BLING BLING!"

Instead they will see a mesh screen and be curious why you have that on......Personally, whenever i see an import in a parking lot w/ a kit or some mesh ill walk over to it and see if i can see a boost gauge inside or a FMIC or something.

My opinion is you only use mesh when A) you have something to hide. B) you are a stupid ricer and you probably have some expensive toys in the car. C) You just like the look, which kind of makes you a stupid ricer.

Basically my whole point of painting my FMIC is so it would look as stock as possible for a person just walking by or driving by for safety purposes and for the purpose that i wont have to pop my hood for faggots to ask me stupid questions.

Re:Painting Intercooler Q's?

Nice...i'm gonna just go ahead and paint it. If it sucks that bad i'll just ------ soak the bitch in paint thinner. Anyway, its kinda funny because every nice car around here with an alarm gets stolen. same with a grill and cars under tarps. ---- it, i'll just pay a bum to sleep next to my car wen i'm sleeping lol

Re:Painting Intercooler Q's?

Yes, you do it for theft protection/ricer suppression. That's why its a must to paint the core. If you don't, you'll still see it in there.

Re:Painting Intercooler Q's?

Why soak it in paint thinner???

Just do "FLIP THE BITCH"! Of course you cant paint both sides... Some times you feel like white and sometimes you feel like black. Use what suits that occassion I say! haha

Re:Painting Intercooler Q's?

If you're really worried about losing efficiency (even though, as said, it probably wouldn't be enought to worry about) why not try some radiator paint?

http://cache.eastwoodco.com/images/P746.jpg

That way, not only would your heat transfer be unaffected, but the color would be dead on for that radiator look.

Lots of factory intercoolers are painted so it cant hurt that much.
