Oxygen Injection

A friend asked me if this was possible, and quite frankly I don't know. He wants to inject pure oxygen into his intake, much like nitrous oxide, but he wants it running at all times. Would this work, as long as it didn't run lean? Bigger injectors? Regulate O2 flow according to throttle position?

Thanks.

sounds dangerous, tell him to do it and take pics

If it worked someone would have done it already...so I'm betting no.

I don't think you have enough oxygen to supply the motor.. *maybe* on one quarter mile pass, but that's a lot of flow, and a lot of bottles need to be running at once.

yeah they call it NO2 i think the nitrogen keeps it stable unlike pure oxygen?

u ever see what oxigen does when you introduce it to a welding torch. it gets hot and melts everything that it comes in touch with. now think what happens when the oxygen hits the combustion chamber. 98ctr

Re:Oxygen Injection

Nitrous can break engines being only 36% o2 by volume.

I don't think I would want to be driving around with a bottle of o2 in my car either. Hell just driving around with a bottle of n2o is dangerous enough. Here's a few pics of a n2o bottle explosion. pretty nasty...

If he/she thinks they would survive that, then imagine if the contents would react violently with any petroleum.

Oh yeah, if you remember the big explosion of the green eclipse in fast and the furious.. yeah that's what the nitrous can do.

Oh yeah, and disabled people drive around all day long with oxygen cylinders rattling around in their trunks.. my mom used to.

98ctr is right on point. it would melt everything.

so in that case... tell your friend, that you think its a great idea. and get it on video, and post it.

Thanks.

OK, google's got nothing. Who's got photos of exploding nitrous bottles? ;D

Re:Oxygen Injection

heres how it all works break it down
nitrous oxide (N20) is a gas made up of two parts nitrogen to one of oxygen. it's stored as a liquid under pressure in a bottle.but as soon as it's injected into the engine it turns to a gas, heat breaks the chemical bond down, the inert nitrogen disappears into the atmosphere, while the engine is fed a nice rich dose of OXYGEN. so the role of nitrous oxide is that of a carrier of oxygen and makes it alittle safer to store and handle.

wat we have now is a lean mixture of fuel and air or too much o2.the ratioof fuel to oxygen is too low, meaning detonation or melted pistons.unless you add more fuel to balance things out.

so basically adding nos to the car is adding pure o2 so its a safe bet that adding pure o2would give some quick power if you add it in a quick burst but ifits on all the time it would have to be in a low flow rate ,it would be better to only use it for a drag race or so fourth but yes in my idea go for the o2 if you got the cash and time to design a setup and let us know how it works out and takes pics and video when your buddy blows it up ;D

Re:Oxygen Injection

if it was a good idea it would have been done already, stick to nitrous if you wanna inject stuff ;D

I'm buying an '87 Hyndai hatchback for $75. I'm going to install O2 injection (with a VERY small tank) and film it from a quarter mile away (major zoom). I'll be sure to post the video. ;D
