Overboost Protection Devices

Like anyone, I have learned that if something can go wrong it will. Turbo cars have a lot of links in the chain and its just a matter of time before one of them breaks. The quest to save my motor when something does go wrong is never ending and I want to share my most recent thought.

As we all know, If the waste gate sticks shut, it will overboost almost immediately. This will blow a stock motor before ya have a chance to get off the throttle.

Option 1: install a T into the line going to BOV. Put a MBC into the tee so when manifold pressure to the BOV goes over a set psi (7 for me) it will open the line, allowing the pressure in the charge pipe to open the BOV, saving my motor long enough for me to get off the gas: .·:*¨¨*:·.Black Hallman Pro Manual Boost Controller MBC | eBay

Option 2: install a "Go Fast Bits Turbo Fuse" inline to the BOV which will do similar and cut pressure to BOV if it goes over the set point: GFB TURBO FUSE - Overboost protection valve | eBay

Option 3: Install a pressure switch in the manifold which, when activated, disconnects power to the ignition coils: 1-25 psi Boost Pressure Switch for metanol injections

Option 4: Install a second, (or third or fourth depending on how many you already have) waste gate in case one of them fails.

If anyone has tried one or more of these options, or has a better idea, please share your experiences. Thank you,

Scott

What are you using to tune it with? Does it have an overboost spark / fuel cut option? That would accomplish what you need without any extra parts. If you don't have this option, I'd do the boost pressure switch cutting power to the coils.

I have sct pro racer. I am using the stock ecu and it does not have a fuel cut/spark cut based on boost pressure. Thank you for your help, I appreciate learning.

The failsafe gauges from AEM would do what your looking for with a switchable output. You probably want a boost gauge or a wideband gauge in the car anyway, so this just makes sense. They even do flex fuel now built into the gauge, check it out:

I have an autometer boost/vac gauge now. maybe when I have more money one of these aem units will be more attractive. Thank you for the link!
