opinions on using hf turbo manifold?

I'm only considering it because of the HUGE price difference. if you advise against this then i'll go for one of the BmC manifolds.

this will be paired up with the saab turbo. i think its a t3 .42/.48 ?

one mroe thing. someone mentioned that the stock exhaust mani on my 97 dx can also be used. this true?

i'm new to boost and plan on peicing together a hmt setup by next summer.

its nice to be here, hope you all can help

Luke

is your catalytic converter hanging infront of the engine?

Re:opinions on using hf turbo manifold?

yep. the reason i never really noticed if it looked the same is cuz i still have the heat shield covering the mani so i didn't really notice what it looked like.

i can't find how to edit my messages.. but i was reading on ht that the cat is actually one peice with the manifold. and some people have just cut it off and then fabbed up a flange to the manifold. i think i'll just buy an hf mani. they are cheap anyways. and i live in ny so i have a decent amount of rust on the underbody and on bolts in the engine bay :( so i'll replace whatever i can i suppose

use a 96-00 civic dx manifold.. cut the cat off then mig weld a plate on it for the turbo to bolt on.. ill post picts soon on how i did mine.. it costs nothing at all maby 10.00 for a junkyard or find a friend who removed there stock dx manifold for a 4-2-1 header and take it.. cut the cat off at the end of it and get 3/8" plate and weld it on and cut out the hole for the exaust to flow through its a nice clean setup.. you can even take alum or diamond plate to make a sexy heat shield.. PM me for picts or more info...

actually i own a 97 dx. i've heard it can be done. will it perform just as well as the hf and std manifolds?

i believe they flow a hair better then the HF manifold..

Re:opinions on using hf turbo manifold?

k i've decided to go with the std manifold. if for some reason i really can't find one, i'll settle for an hf. my mani is pretty rusted and i'd rather not hassle with having to hack it up and stuff. this is my daily driver so it'd be nice to have all the boost stuff read when i'm set to install it.

thanks again guys

Re:opinions on using hf turbo manifold?

i belive the man was asking if it would be worth the price to power difference to use a fab mani apposed to the HF

Re:opinions on using hf turbo manifold?

yep that was my original question. seems like ppl feel i'd be ok running that small t3 on the hf. then someone said the std flows a bit better so thats what i'll keep an eye out. if anyone on here has one to sell to me cheap that is in good condition(no cracks or anything) i'd buy.

like i said about hacking up my mani--i'd rather have one all ready to install since this is my daily driver and so far, i've been prone to run into unexpected delays/problems when i work on my DIY projects.

thanks guys :)

Re:opinions on using hf turbo manifold?

The HF/STD/CX are all very close, the only difference is the outside of the STD has bigger runners, so you can port more out of the manifold. I'd say get whatever one you can for cheap. If you end up spending more than 75 bucks for manifold/adapter you may want to look into just getting a log.

anyways... i found an hf mani with a BmC t3 adapter plate. if the guy can provide vouches and condition of peices i will buy it up ;)
