Re:Opinions on knife edging crank
For daily driving, NO, bad idea.. the weight is their for a reason, it helps support the bottom end, after knife edging it, bearings will last about 1/4 of their normal life.
This is what our local bottom end balancer guy told me... |
Re:Opinions on knife edging crank
even if you balanced the crank
|
Re:Opinions on knife edging crank
If done correctly it's supposed to last the same time as original

Re:Opinions on knife edging crank
I'm just telling you what people have told me, and what the guy at the balancer shop (20+ years) told me. Call around I bet you will get the same answer,
I know guys with stock honda cranks hitting 700hp to the wheels, You dont need to ---- with your crank. |
Re:Opinions on knife edging crank
abaz is right... knife edged cranks are race ONLY
on the street it wont idle, will run rough, will have no torque and the bearings wont last, evin if balanced, becaust the counterweights stick out for a reason, to stop the crank "pulling" its self around against the bearings as opposed to spinning round happily around its centre |
Re:Opinions on knife edging crank
How about balancing the crank, I've heard it makes the engine lasts longer? Any thoughts?

Re:Opinions on knife edging crank
Honda cranks are pretty well balanced as far as I know. But when you start changing things like flywheel/dampner pistons/rods etc... You will more than likly need to get it balanced. I had my bottom end balanced on my built zc. It was way ------- off, after you put in all that crap.
