Open Wastegate?
 

My accord has newly met the power of a turbo. I am a little concerned because at 6 psi i can cruise along fine. I have yet to open it up because of fear. When i get to about 3000 rpms and give it more than say 60% gas when boosted it makes a wierd noise. what does an open wastegate sound like. Also what does knock sound like. The noise bugs the crap outta me I want to find out what it is so I can begin to make this grocery getter a bad mofo on the roads.

if u have a boost guage look at it when u hear that wierd noise it might be ur turbo spooling up :D what is ur wg set at if u hear that noise at about the psi it should be opening up well its prob that if u dont hear a pinging like marbles in a coffee can u should be fine

The gauge stands at 6 and theres no sound till i give er some gas and then it comes up. thats why im wonderin what a open wastegate sounds like

what psi is ur wg set at if it sounds like something sucking air rappidly its the turbo

hey man don't worry i was worried about the same thing, it's most likely the wastegate opening up, check your spark plugs just to make sure. the open wastegate kind of sounds like small lawnmower. i was sure of this because after i put a dumptube on, it changed into a more hollow type of sound. good luck.

The wastegate is working fine it goes to 6 psi like a good boy and keeps it there. A small lawnmower sounds about right. My air fuel gauge has to be hooked up worng cause the damn thing will not light up. It did one time and that was at extreme lean but only flashed so Im gonna bash that with a hammer. The turbo sounds like a frigin jet crakin up.

wait don't bash your a/f gauge just yet, it usually takes about 4-5 min for the oxygen sensor to reach 600F before the gauge even shows a LED. just wait a while.

if ur hearing it at the psi ur wg is set to open then thats it when u give it more gas more exhaust is going to go out the wg and the turbo will also get louder from it sucking more air when u punch it if u dont hear pinging let er rip
