Oil seal keep blowing out!!
Maybe someone could help me out on this. I Just put my engine back together after replacing that headgasket I blew out about 1.5 months ago when I turbo'ed my B16 Civic. When I blew the gasket my turbo also started leaking oil out of both side. I was using the stealthmode performance -3an oil lin kit as suggested buy our HMT community. I was advised not to use a -4an because it would blow the seals. It bought another turbo, and Yesterday I finally get my motor back together and drove for like 75-100 mile and smoke starts coming out of the exhaust like a freight train. I look at my turbo and find both sides and leaking oil again. I bought a Function 7 Oil inlet fitting with built in restrictor just so this would not happen again. What gives. What I'm I doing wrong???

Re: Oil seal keep blowing out!!
Still getting too much pressure with the restrictor?
Do you not have an oil pressure gauge? |
Re: Oil seal keep blowing out!!
Yes I have an oil pressure gauge. under acceleration it's usally like at 80-90psi

Re: Oil seal keep blowing out!!
the restrictor doesnt reduce the pressure, it reduces the volume. If you have the restrictor, turn it half closed, and check your oil return, it sounds plugged or kinked or somthing.

Re: Oil seal keep blowing out!!
restriction in the oil drain line?
|
Re: Oil seal keep blowing out!!
I don't think there are any binds in the oil retun, it's pretty much a soft bend.
Also I don't have a restrictor I have a the fitting the is said to regulate the flowT3/T4 -3 AN Regulator Turbo Oil Inlet Fitting Function7 - Precision Machined, 7075 Billet Aluminum, -3 AN (JIC) male inlet fitting with integrated restrictor Part Number: F7T34-R3 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33742 www.function-7.com Where would i get the restrictor you guys are talking about. |
Re: Oil seal keep blowing out!!
may be ur turbo is not getting enough oil to keep the seal alive. look how tiny the hole is on the inlet flange
|
Re: Oil seal keep blowing out!!
Well that sounds like it could happen, BUT if it wasn't getting enough oil it would smoke, not gush oil all over the place. Right?

Re: Oil seal keep blowing out!!
what size return are you using? Make sure it's as vertical as possible.

The same one that come with the Steathmode performance t3/t4 oil lin kit |
Re: Oil seal keep blowing out!!
It does sound like you have waaaay too much oil pressure going into the turbo. I have my oil pressure gauge hooked into a tee on the back of my block so i can see what teh psi is at the motor, and then i have another one after my homedepot style restrictor so i can see how much goes into the turbo. At the most I think you're never supposed to go over 40 psi at the turbo, or else what happened to you is usually what happens. Right now mine is regulated down so that when the motor makes 80 psi, the turbo only sees about 25 or 30.

We recommend that you get the turbo checked out and have the seals replaced if necessary. -A Function7 Engineering Mesa, AZ |
