Oil Return Problem [Pics] Quick help please

O0

Just a quick question
http://www.dkgoodrich.com/Pictures/oilreturn.jpg
When I removed the rubber oil return line a small stream of oil came out of the nipple.

Is this normal or did I place the fitting a tad too low? the nipple is about 1 1/4" est from the top lip of the pan.

Can I use this pan or should I scrap it use this one?

I've already bought the pan and it should have it in a bout a week but I'd really love to drive this car around the block a couple times. This is the only thing stopping me from starting this boosted engine for the first time.

It's not ridiculously low but it's possible... sure you didn't overfill your oil?

Props on getting a pic while it was coming out :)

In the picture the oil is actually comming out the nipple it self, If I re attach the rubber return line no leaks, just when I pull it back off oil is in the return.

No oil will come out of the nipple w/return pulled when the dip stick is half in between the two dots on the stick.

Sorry man, not a crx, its a b18a1 engine.

I used two big washers, locknut, nipple, backing nut and JB Quik in between everything; Its pretty sturty :8

I went ahead and ordered the moroso pan with a bung welded in. $120 didnt seem two steep.

Do you all think I could start it a drive it around the block or so a half quart low? It'd be on the basemap, I just want to get it to the welding shop for a dump tube, intercooler mounts, 02 bung, ect. Maybe romp it once or twice.

Thanks for your .02

1/2 a quart below the max line is fine. I usually keep it at that level to consume less oil

with the engine running the oil level will be lower in the pan so it shouldnt be a problem

Your return really doesn't look that low.

Just put the line on it and call it good.

Thanks a bunch for your responses. Tuesday my tuner is bringing my chrom chipped & basemapped ecu so I will be able to start it & get it to the welder. Eventually for peace of mind and I've already paid for it; I'll install the moroso when it comes in. Depending on any more problems or leaks who knows how long I'll leave it. Do I just keep an eye out for the turbo smoking?

Funny thing is, once I hit a lil over 3 quarts It started draining from the nipple just like my stock tapped pan.

The only reason I kept the moroso was the oil splash baffle inside the pan.

I also got a trasparent white braded oil return line.

My ecu was also held back a day so I removed the turbo manifold and downpipe to take to the welder to get braced and shortened.

Should be able to start it tommarrow. Thanks for you alls help.

I now have a perfectly good b18a1 oem tapped oil pan that im not using O0
I actually like the nipple placement on my oem one better than the moroso

it is basically a stock tapped oil pan, it uses the stock pickup tube, so there is NO advantage to this thing besides being tapped already and having a temp bung.

OP: is the car sitting level when the oil is pouring out of the plug??? is you motor level, its not a hack swap is it??

Re: Oil Return Problem [Pics] Quick help please

Re: Oil Return Problem [Pics] Quick help please

Yea it has a slow stream that poars out at like 3.5qt, I can see some oil sitting in the clear oil return. My engine sits level, its a mix of HA sport and 94+ integra engine mounts.

I got it running and timed today, drove it for a couple hrs on the base map. I was so shocked how fast it is. 1st 2nd and 3rd are useless. You can clack it from a 20-30 mph roll and smoke em. I had a 7mgte supra single turbo and I'm pretty sure it wasnt as fast as this thing.

Thanks for all you help.
