Oil return (oil burning) question

o.k. i finally got everything for my turbo kit hooked up (partial used drag kit) and after idling for about 5 minutes, it started smoking around the exhaust side of the turbo, almost looked like a little oil was actually bubbling out between the downpipe flange and turbo a bit. turbo looks and spins great with decent play. no oil residue or carbon on the turbine blades when i bought it. is this common or do i need a rebuild or could the smoke be becase oil is backing up in the turbo? i had a return line tapped into the oil pan by the local speed shop and they said it HAD to be located at the top of the pan above the deep part (drivers side), but this makes for a very slowly sloping return (turbo oil outlet is closer to the passenger side). any advice???

Re:Oil return (oil burning) question

could be too much oil pressure going in and getting past the seals. check the newbie thread

thanks for replying. what exactly do you mean by the "newbie thread"? the oil in line is 4-an stainless and the return line is 10-an stainless. thanks

Re:Oil return (oil burning) question

thanks! i think I'll try either 3-an line or the restrictor and see what happens. since too much oil pressure was probably the problem, does that mean i'm going to need new seals, or will the old ones hold if the pressure is lower?

Re:Oil return (oil burning) question

some people said it helped a lot but not completely. worth a shot before having to rebuild it.
