Oil Restrictor Question?

Ok i have a -3an oil line from the block to my tunertoys fitting mounted to the firewall. From there i have an brass line goin to the oil pressure gauge, an -4an oil line going to the turbo and of course the oil sensor. I am wondering where i should put the restrictor? Should i put it in before the tunertoys fitting(and monitor the restricted oil pressure) or after (and monitor the actual oil pressure and guess what the turbo is getting)? Thanx in advance.

Re: Oil Restrictor Question?

You don't want your Stock Oil Pressure Sensor to be affected by the Restrictor. So Put it between your TT Line and you turbo.

My Question has been answered(sp?) It makes since to monitor the actual oil pressure but i sure hate guessing how much is actually gettin to my turbo.

Re: Oil Restrictor Question?

So then get and after market gauge and place it after the restictor. Oil pressure at the turbo doesn't mean ---- (unless your running some crazy high pressure), It's the flow that matters.

Re: Oil Restrictor Question?

See thats the thing i do have an oil pressure gauge. Im juss wondering if theres any harm in putting the restrictor before the TT fiting so i know how much oil the turbo is seeing. Or if its better to see what the actual oil pressure is for the car and put the restrictor after the TT fitting on the feed line for the turbo and juss guess ho wmuch is makin it to the turbo.

You want to know the pressure at the turbo. If your feed pressure it too high you'll blow oil out the seals, and that's no fun. Here you can see I have the feed line coming from the back of the motor, then it's pinched (that is my restrictor) then it's "T"ed, one goes to the turbo and the other the oil pressure gauge.

Re: Oil Restrictor Question?

yeah if you wanna see the stock pressure and the pressure @ the turbo, run a line off the block and "T" it witht he stock sending unit, then run your restrictor then "T" again with the feed line and the after market sending unit, This way your stock cluster will still see the real oil presure and your aftermarket gauge will see the dropped pressure.

WTF?

First of all, the tunertoys fitting goes into the block, not the T. It has different threads. The stock oil pressure sensor goes on the back of the tuner toys fitting. Then you run one outlet to the oil pressure sensor, and the other outlet to the restrictor and then to the turbo.
Solution to your problems: Hook the sensor up to read the turbo pressure and from cold start to warm redline ect. ect. monitor the oil pressure. Adjust restrictor as needed. Once you are happy with the pressure to the turbo, hook the sensor up to see the engines oil pressure. From cold start to warm redline ect. ect. you will see the "normal" pressure that the motor is putting out, knowing at the same time that the restrictor is adjusted to where you want it. From there your oil pressure gauge will read engine oil pressure, but you will be able to notice any abnormal fluctuations which would also tell you there is a fluctuation in the turbos oil pressure.
