oil presure

ok well every thing was fine but lately some times when i idel my oil presure guage jumps up and down from like 25 ish to 40-50 ish i think the guage is fine but not shure cuz if i turn key ahead but dont start my car it stays at 0. im running a 14b turbo with no oil restrictor

Re: oil presure

What's the motor setup? You should probably get some kind of restrictor on that turbo before your seals go and you start spewing oil all over. It almost sounds like something's getting clogged for it to jump that much, or your pump might be getting ready to take a major ---- :(

Re: oil presure

how much work is it to replace the pump? im gona try and clean the lines out and get some kind of restrictor hope it fixes it

does the idle bounce?

Re: oil presure

no not at all . and when the car is in gear going down a hill or braking the presure stays constant at about 40-50 psi when i accelerat the oil presure goes up to 80ish and stays constant

Re: oil presure

It has been like that for a couple of weeks. When i first start it up it reads about 20 psi on the pressure gauge and then slowly works its way down to lower numbers. i havent watched it when i was driving to see whats goin on yet, but i know its only on 0 when im sitting still or got the clutch in. Everything runs fine though? lil info i have the clear hose thaty came with the oil pressure gauge running from the block to the tunertoys fitting i have mouted on the firewall, then a brass line from there to the gauge and the steel braided from there to the turbo and of course the oil sensor on top of the block fitting. Anything sound bad? Or how can i fix it? and to the OP sorry to hijack your post. Oh and something else if it helps you guys when im sittin in nuetral idling the sits at 0 or real close anyways but the oil light in the dash flickers, but as soon as i touch the gas it goes off. Not sure thatt'll help anything but i thought id let ya know about that as well.

When my old a6 block did that, i had a really bad rod knock about 2 weeks later...spun 3 bearings. Get ready to rebuild your motor or buy a new one dude :P

Re: oil presure

are you using a oil restrictor?

sleeper69 05-19-2006 02:22 AM

Re: oil presure

so i finaly fixed my porblem. replaced the sending unit and the presure stoped bouncing i also put in an restrictor. im running 60 pis when under power and 15-25 idel depending on temp. is 60 good enough or should i try and lower to like 50 - 55 ?

Re: oil presure

I think we have figured out why it reads so low. Because we used the lil clear hose that came with the oil pressure gauge, by the time it gets from the back of the block to the fitting on the fire wall there isnt that much pressure there due to the size of the hose. Its very restrictive. Don't get me wrong we have taken the feed line off the turbo and started it and its gettin oil. So everything is workin right, it seem as if i already have a restrictor on there cause of that lil hose. Ill be gettin a stainless -4an or -3an braded hose for it and see if that bumps up the presure the gauge see's. I will also need a restrictor then so we'll see.

Re: oil presure

This is what i did for lack of better words. Can you see any reason why i would be gettin low pressure with this install?
