Oil pressure important enough for a gauge?

Pretty much as the title says... I am just curious how many of you use an oil pressure gauge. I'm thinking it's probably a good idea to keep an eye on this when running a turbo, but I don't see too many people with oil pressure gauges. Along those lines, anyone recommend any particular gauge? Thanks.

Re: Oil pressure important enough for a gauge?

Yes. it's the third most imporntant gauge in any modified car. First being a widebad O2 sensor then boost then oil pressure.

I agree. Oil pressure is definately a good idea.

Re: Oil pressure important enough for a gauge?

I'd put it as second most important just because not everyone can afford a WBO2 for there HMT kit Boost and oil pressure and don't be stupid and run a mechanical guage into your car get a auti meter electrical well worth the $50 or $60 I think they cost

Re: Oil pressure important enough for a gauge?

I personally consider the oil pressure gauge the single most important guage to have, just for the fact that oil is the life-blood of your engine, and without oil pressure you'll have nothing but a big boat anchor.

You can pick up a nice short sweep oil pressure guage from autometer for right around 70. I will be ordering most of my gauges form this site:

It's the most important gauge.

We put 2 on our cars.

1 monitering the engine itselt in the cabin.
2 to set the oil pressure to the turbo under the hood.

Thats a good idea rather than me running back and forth from the drivers seat to under the hoo checking and adjusting it :P

get two people......less running back and forth :)

awesome... thanks guys... I'll splurge on a decent electrical one.

i've always run one, i like havein it there, i'd consider it 2nd in the line of importance

what about the stock oil light? :P Will the oil pressure even start to show abnormal readings or will it just drop all of a sudden, rendering a gauge useless?

The stock oil light is the "oh no your fucked" usually only comes on when you are out of oil...a real guage gives you numbers so you acctually know what your oil presure is

Re: Oil pressure important enough for a gauge?

I run a mechanical gauge and i dont think i would ever spend the money for an electrical one. If your not an idiot when you run the tubing you wont have any problems. Just make sure that its not sitting on any sharp edges and on areas where it would rub on something just cover the tubing with a larger diameter rubber tubing. I have heard of the sending units on the autometer electrical gauges failing alot so i would rather just run a mechanical one.

I just don't like the though of hot oil inside the car and god forbid you get in a wreck you are going to get sprayed with it...I'd rather not risk it

I have an old mechanical one in my car as well (came from an old dirt track car), and I've never had any issues with it leaking or anything like that. Just don't use that plastic tubing stuff, get the copper hard line instead.

Re: Oil pressure important enough for a gauge?

I put my guage in to my dash on my integra and I feared oil would leak but the little teflon tubing is pretty strong and holds well. So far so good no leakiage ;D

its not going to be any hotter then when you change your oil unless your bombing down the freeway at 150mph, -----

Suit yourself i laugh when you wreck and you have to head some hot oil :P

Ive got a mechanical gauge

Only cost me 10 bucks, used some spare vacuum type line with thick walls and just clamped it and wrapped it in electrical tape

works mint

The elec sending units tend to fail a fair bit, Im happy

top 2 gauges for sure

OMFG I HAVE OIL ON MY FACE.... *wipes face with shirt* all better

how ------- hard is that ::)

and what is the chance that you'll get hit with any oil if you crash..

youre gay for paying $70 go to auto zone and get a sunpro 2 5/8" gauge for $17

If you really care about your engine its good to know whats going on under the hood, you need this gauge, dont halfass stuff

i got but w/ ss braided lines. electrical ones seem to have alot of failures w/ the sender.

if you get in a wreck that bad you are pretty muched fucked anyways, god forbid that you are unconscious and cant turn off the car.

Re: Oil pressure important enough for a gauge?

Question on an electrical gauge... do you just splice into the stock oil pressure sensor on the back of the block?

What do you guys think of this Autometer? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AUTOM...spagenameZWDVW

It seems cheap to be an electric gauge...

well if you dont run one, most hondas have a oil pressure light that comes on to tell you your fucked

havent you had a turbo car for like 3 years....and didnt you just buy an Oil Pressure Gauge this season? ;)

Re: Oil pressure important enough for a gauge?

I run a mechanical oil pressure gauge sitting behind the hood on the vent. Works great. I like seeing oil pressure fuel pressure and boost. But as someone said, the oil is the lifeblood. If your oil pressure is down, you need to shut her down and figure out what is going on before you damage something.
On my other mustang, I have a fancy autometer electronic fuel pressure gauge. It broke. Only mechanical from now on.

My autometer electrical oil pressure gauge broke after 2 weeks. I have an autometer mechanical with a ss line now, and it's mint O0

If you mean the wiring, no. The stock sensor on the back of the block is simply a switch that completes a circut below xxpsi. If you mean t'ing the source for another sending unit, then yes.

Yup. I've run cars with no boost gauges. With boost cut set in the ECU, I'll probably own several more.

So, with an electrical gauge, where do you wire it?

Re: Oil pressure important enough for a gauge?

separate oil psi sensor, autometer ones tend to fail alot.
