Oil Pressure Gauge Help

My Electric oil pressure gauge seens like it is stuck around 20 PSI. The GND is good, and the Ignition wire is good(i think), so I have it narrowed down to the sender. Nothing seems wrong with the sender wire, so what could it be? I bought the gauge brand new, so I doubt its the actual sender. When my key is in the position before start, the gauge gets power and stays at 20PSI. When the car is started and running it also stays at 20PSI.....I am out of ideas.

Does it stay at 20lbs. when the power is shut off to the guage (key off)? Maybe the guage is stuck. Or, if your positive your grounds are clean, I would certainly look into the sending unit. Maybe it was damaged during shipping.

IS this a new sender?????

If not how is it mounted?????

With power off, gauge should goto zero if it is good.

I had a good scare, just got to the 500 mile mark on a minor rebuild, so I went for a blast. 120 mph in 4th gear oil pressure gauge was at zero!!!!!! Pushed in the clutch and the engine died.........----!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turned out the sender mounted to the block died from vibrations.

Power off, the gauge does go to zero. It is mounted where it could be septical to vibrations, but it is a new unit.

Did you use teflon tape on the threads on the sender?? My instructions said if you do it will mess up the signal, HTH...Matt

yeah, i did use teflon tape. I am going to remove the sender and remove the tape and see if that fixes it.

This was the problem. Teflon tape was blocking the oil hole for the sender. I remove the excess tape and a blob of oil came out. Now the gauge works :)

Now to sending my boost gauge back to autometer :( ................

Reading directions is a good idea! Jk I was installing mine and my gf was looking at the directions and told me about that so I made sure i didn't put tape on it. Good to hear it was just a simple fix...Matt
