oil/coolant lines

I have a TD04.Do you need to run both coolant and oil lines? I've been told you can run only oil lines? Is this true?

naw no way your turbo would ---- up big time. oil is used to lubricate the turbo aswell as cooling it. no lubrication=dead turbo. i wouldn't connect the coolant lines cause it'll make your engine run a little hotter.

Re:oil/coolant lines

im guessing that it is safe to assume that any turbo that is both oil and water-cooled it is not necessary to water-cool it. Reason being that i have both an rhb5 and a t25, that have fittings for oil and water coolant lines. Obviously the oil is a must, but water/coolant isnt an absolute must. Also, if the coolant fittings arent used, should they be plugged? Thought i read something about a water-jacket that separates it from the oil, so it wouldnt matter. Anyone have input?

you don't need to plug the coolant holes if you're not using them. if you decide to use them later, just press a garden hose to the water holes and let water run through the turbo for a while to flush out any dirt that might have gotten in there. i didn't plug the coolant holes in my turbo.
