don't count on "probably"
if you're going to take it apart, then do it now to be sure which one you have. remember to scribe or mark the wheel/shaft/nut

I'll definitely scribe the bits as mentioned if I take it apart.

Thanks for the tips. :y

next, you have to make sure you have a 4 piece carbon seal and not one of the others:
You have to take it apart to find out.
1. Dynamic Seal
2. Encapsulated Carbon Seal
3. Four-piece Carbon Seal

Okay, I finally had time to pull the turbo and take it apart (after marking everything necessary).

I would definitely say it's a dynamic seal like their e-mail suggested it would be. However, I cannot tell why it failed other than the clip being QUITE loose around the shaft. It is not damaged at all, it's just very loose.

Thoughts as to what might cause this assuming it's not supposed to be this way? I can get pictures if it would help.

Well, I got the seal in and foolish me, didn't notice it was for the compressor side when the one I really need is the exhaust (hopefully).

Can someone tell me what the exhaust side seal would be called? I don't see a dynamic seal for the exhaust on eBay.

Thanks.
