Oil Catch Can Issue...
To make a long story short... after 20,000 miles of fun boost on the 196,000 mile d16a6, I'm getting blow-by like crazy... it actually is puking up some foam out of my valve cover breather. My ZC motor is already HOME, but I cannnot install it until spring break because I'm here at school. I'm still driving it around with no real problems besides the smoke and foam coming out of the valve cover breather... to let you know how ghetto I did this, I ran a line from my valve cover breather to a mountain dew bottle in my fender to catch the nasty foam junk. Look here:
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg in this diagram, a line is going from the valve cover breather, right into the turbo intake... if I did this, I would have some nasty chargepipes. Why can't I make a catch can, run my PCV line to it as well as my valve cover breather? Just run the valve cover breather AND the PCV line into ONE line going to the catch can and have ONE line go to the turbo intake... Wouldn't this work just fine? |
Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
If you ran a hose from the pcv and valve cover how would the motor breathe? I'm probably talking out of my ass :P. Just run the pcv to catch can then to turbo and slap a filter onto valve cover.

Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
Sorry to jack the thread but this is a related question...
Should my car be blowing air out of the valve cover breather place? I always thought it sucked air in there. |

Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
Mr Dr Pep the easiest and best(IMO) way to run your PCV is like this:
http://www.beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/PCV_turbo_1fit.jpg this pic pretty much speaks for itsself air is actually getting sucked in from the valve cover filter instead of blowing out, the diagram you put up mimics the factory PCV system but a little more complicated to hook up. |
Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
"This routing is a little simpler than the one above. The valve cover fitting has a breather filter on it. Air flows through the crankcase and out of the PCV port which now has a plastic 90* barbed fitting in it (no PCV valve). From the PCV port, the air flows into the side of the catch can and out of the top of the can. Air then flows back to the pre-turbo intake pipe. A 90* fitting is not required here because air flowing across the opening of the fitting in the intake pipe will draw air out in the direction of air flow (the same reason water comes out the top of a straw when it is submerged in a glass of water and you blow across the top of it).
This routing is not a closed circuit system with the only drive for the system being provided by vacuum. Thanks to xenocron from G2IC for this PCV plumbing option." From G2IC Turbo Guide http://www.beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html |
Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
Yeah, I will do so... I know this issue has already been posted too many times but my case is weird because I'm getting so much blow by that my breather on the valve cover is literally puking up nasty junk. I'll run a catch can on the PCV and see if it stops blowing out of there. I guess the circulation of air in the crankcase was my problem and the pcv couldn't function properly so it comes out of the breather filter... that makes since.

Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
^ that means your PCV valve is bad, and you shouldn't use a filter there anyways theres no point.

Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
the hole on your valve cover sucks air in man ::)

Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
Here's a good question. Why does the PCV valve for my b18b come off the valve cover? ???

Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
I'm doing ls/vtec turbo and if the pcv valve comes off my valve cover, how does it ventilate positive case pressure? The valve cover for my b16 head doesn't have a port for the pcv valve like my LS cover. ???

Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
detatch that hose and see if there is a pcv valve in your valve cover..it's a little metal nipple looking thing that will rattle when you shake it... there should be no pcv from your valve cover..just a straight hose to your intake

Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
its a different system the F22 engines have it on the valve covers too
|
Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
Crap, so what do I do? ???

Re:Oil Catch Can Issue...
no idea man.. i didn't know there was a different way
