Oh no Project Passat
Didn't see a 'project' forum, so I decided to talk about an idea for a turbo setup on V6 Passat with these specs:
our plan was to use a TD04 from a WRX cuz we find them for cheap... not looking for HP here, kinda lookin for experience (i drive a family sedan and im only 17 :'(). Is the TD04 a decent choice for: Engine Type: 2.8l, 6-cylinder, 30-valve, 90° V (pic) Horsepower (SAE): 190 (142 Kw) @ 6000 RPM Torque: 206 lbs-ft (280 Nm) @ 3200 RPM Redline: 6500 RPM Bore & Stroke: 3.25" x 3.40" (82.5 mm x 86.4 mm) Displacement: 169.1 cubic inches (2771 cc) Compression Ratio: 10.6:1 Arrangement: Front mounted, longitudinal Cylinder Block: Cast iron Crank Shaft: Forged steel, four main bearings Cylinder Head: Aluminum alloy, cross flow Valve Train: Double overhead camshaft with variable intake valve timing, spur belt driven, 5 valves per cylinder, maintenance-free hydraulic lifters Cooling System: Water cooled, water pump, cross flow radiator, thermostatically controlled electric radiator fan Lubrication: Rotary gear pump, oil cooler Fuel/Air Supply: Sequential multi-point fuel injection (Motronic ME7), variable intake manifold geometry Since its a V6, I have 2 Downpipes. We were going to put the turbo after the downpipe (i know, not the best way to get boost, but hey, not looking for HP here :)) Since i only wanted to do a single turbo, we have to converge the 2 downpipes at one point. Before i start blowing ---- up and destroying my car, would this be an ideal way to do things? Or should i leave 2 downpipes and buy 2 TD04s? |
Re: Oh no Project Passat
you do know that if you blow it up you are short $3000 for just teh shortblock right??
and you need a bigger turbo |
Re: Oh no Project Passat
i think you would want a bigger turbo. much bigger.
there is not alot of room in that engine bay. isnt the oil pan hump near the front of the motor? a singe turbo would probably be easier. if you could route the exhaust forward and mount the turbo somewhere up front that might work. if not you would probably need a separate pump to bring the oil forward to the oil pan. look at this gallery: http://galerie.tomson.com.pl/album07 |

whaaaaat? Hmm. Your right, there isnt alot of room the engine bay, which is why this will be a challenge. What turbo would anyone reccomend? If i do run that turbo what is the problems i run into? If that guy with the V6 4mo can put a turbo in his car i sure can too :). At least i would hope. |
Re: Oh no Project Passat
he prob used 2.7tt manifolds
|
Re: Oh no Project Passat
would stock manifolds be fine for the way i want to set it up?
What turbo would u suggest (other then a k03 or k04, they are kind of expensive and not that popular in junkyards around here)? And if i did run a single TD04 after the downpipes converge, what would be the outcome? |
Re: Oh no Project Passat
i come by k03s's all the time, i have one right now. and i bet i can find you another one in less than 10 minutes.
that TD04 will be maxed out at idle on a 2.8 30v |
Re: Oh no Project Passat
would it still be maxed out if i did twin turbo? one after each downpipe seperately?
|
Re: Oh no Project Passat
i dont know why you want to put them after the DP. the V6 has shorty manifolds, just get an adapter and bolt the turbo on to it. then you can modify the lenght of the existing DP to bolt to the turbos
|
Re: Oh no Project Passat
I wouldnt have to change out the stock manifolds or the stock DP? Thats what i was trying to prevent. Because almost every project i read up on here had to change the manifolds. So i figured thats what i had to do if i put the turbo there.
are you saying do 2 k03s? Cuz isnt the k03 smaller then the td04? |
