Default Not your "basic" noob questions. D16A6 w/PG7

Yeah I'm a noob so what , Been researching this ---- for the past 2 days, First off let me tell you about my application, I have a 91 EF I converted from Dpfi to Mpfi , Running on a PG7 ECU on a D16A6, seems to run fine a little rich though. Now you know what I got ,a couple of questions . Now, as long as I stay with low boost (5.5-maybe 8 psi) an FMU will suffice , right. Would I need to retard the timing myself ? and if so what do I retard the timing to? Would I still need to get some 450cc injectors with that low of boost? I really don't "plan" on turning up the boost via small turbo anyway. (Bigger Turbo = More $ ) I do plan on doing a whole turbo setup. My main question is will the FMU work for now untill I can get a bigger turbo and run a Turbo Edit If I do get a bigger turbo and want to run more boost is Turbo Edit What I need? If not what is? I did go to there sight , but it was not very informative about my application. Hope that you guys can help , Thanx.

7 pounds is the max for an fmu settup. and no you cant use 450cc injectors with an fmu settup.
fmu will work with stock injectors. but really the only way to go whould to get your ecu chipped and to get some 450cc injectors.

My civic hatch from the factory come with the dpfi system and a 4 speed dx transmission and the 1.5 engine, I searched the net for the dpfi to a mpfi , so that when I installed my D16A6 1.6 si motor It would be mpfi I hope that solved your confusion.

Because that's what it is an EF. Check out these sites would all these people call the hatch an EF? I'm just going by what I see on the net.

http://www.passwordjdm.com/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=155
http://www.civic4g.com/
http://www.ef-honda.com/main/
http://dallas.craigslist.org/car/177014431.html A good shell , Its an EF though.
http://www.shopresponse.com/jdm_civi...tec_decal.html cool vtec stickers
http://www.aj-racing.com/catalog/pro...6&cat=0&page=1

So your telling me that my hatch is a ED, Even if it is, don't you think that there is a more subtle way of telling me, you don't know me.

I haven't ever been able to figure that out myself. Because they are stupid?

So you can use a search function? Alright, I'll cut you some slack. Just remember... because you found it on the internet does not mean it's worth a ----.

You always need to run the correct program for your car. While you are stock (stock engine with silly bolt ons is still stock) there is nothing that runs your engine better or makes more power than the stock ECU. A PG7 is not the stock ECU for a D16A6, which is why your car runs rich.

As you change your setup, and do *significant* things to your engine, your tune changes and you need to run something other than a stock program. Please note that when I say significant, $1.9 million dollars worth of headers, exhaust, intake manifolds, CAIs, colorful plugwires that are crap compared to stockers, or MSD boxes do not amount to anything other than a stock engine. You may get 5-15 whp gains (insignificant) from these things, but the stock ECU runs plenty rich to support those gains. When I say significant, I mean a really hot NA engine or a turbo car. If you ---- around and try to run an FMU, the incorrect stock ECU, fucked up piggybacks like AFCs, etc, you'll end up with anything from okay but quirky running to blown up bottom ends.

What you need to do when turboing your car is either create your own program, or pay a tuner to do so for you. Start by reading all the stickies in the Engine Management forum, download some of the softwares available and poke at them. See what you can figure out. You're good with searches, you'll be good with this, too, and you'll find it very rewarding.

Spend 5-10 hours reading and such, then search a little on any Q's you have, and if anything doesn't come right up feel free to post a Q or two here.

PS - welcome to HMT, where you're going to be generally harrassed for your first 400 posts or so. Tough love, brother.
