Well... I got my turbo installed and only have a basemap on it... and you guessed it... I ran it fairly hard today. To put it as simply as i can.. I was at about 6-7k and it goes BOOM and a small cloud of black smoke goes out the back. Then it shuts off.

I originally thought that I either snapped a rod/ring lands were fried/ or bent a rod. However.. It cranks but wont turn over. SO I did a compression check. All are within 20 psi of eachother at around 180 (was like that before I went turbo). No really loud noises or anything when I go to crank it so I doubt its anything internal. (not sure tho).

SO.. that kind of leads me to believe that its my timing belt. I thought my belt could have skipped some teeth or something. I took the valve cover off and couldn't tell much from there. Is it possible for the engine to do something like that and not start up? Or did I seriously fcuk something up? :( .

After all of this is done... I will NEVER drive another car unless it is properly tuned.

anyways, you can find out if the belt is broken most likely from pulling the upper timing cover

yeah Ill have to check the timing out tommarow...

as for the plugs, they all look fine.

turboed gsr motor w/ a basemap.........

^^ yeah, it takes like two seconds, literaly to check the tbelt or if it skipped. I would pull the pan and if you can see anything.

If the tbelt broke wouldn't get stuck and the motor wouldn't be able to crank over??

I had similar effect when my ignition control modul died. Check if you have spark.

So just a loud ass backfire and then nothing? Sounds like ignition to me, if you bent/threw a rod you would know it, if the compression is the same as it was than chances are your ring lands are fine.

yeah my buddie's ICM went on his GSR too, just started it up and then it shut off.

And if you snapped the t-belt you wouldn't have any compression :1

omg, Im gonna go check to see if I have a spark in 5 mins. But yes, as mentioned above, it was just like a loud backfire. Thats what I said it was to my friend before it died... And i didnt think the timing belt snapped, just that it skipped some teeth (but I guess compression would still be out of wack).

MUHAHAHAH!!! NO SPARK :o . im gonna go change most of my ignition components (icm,dizzy,cap, etc..). I hope this is what the problem was. thanks so much for homemadeturbo.com. To let you guys know, I posted this question on honda-tech and a few other forums, and homemadeturbo was the only one that came through for me. Thanks a billiondy guys :D !!!

I'll bet it's the igniter. autozone will check the igniter for free. coil is super F$#kin easy to check. don't bother changing the cap and rotor unless they look bad. Don't you just check if the wires have less then 25k ohms to tell if there bad, besides obvious wear or damage??
