Diesels usually have really big turbine wheels compared to a petrol turbo with the equivalent compressor

I wouldnt bother simply because it is from an early 80's car and considering in the early 80's turbo's were fairly new technology for production cars they were quite inefficient, look for something a little more common that you know will work

If you can find a turbo with a turbine that is small enouph it will work fine. The only real difference is that most diesel turboine housings (hot side) are not made to take as much heat as a turbo made for a gas application. (disesel motors run cooler exaust temps) It will make the life of the turbo somewhat shorter, but when it comes to the way most people on here use all this stuff, it really doesn't matter much...
