noobers first turbo ****PICTURES****

hey guys i recently started to put together my first turbo setup for my zc hatch. and due to me being a poor college student i decided to fab some stuff instead of spending money and not eating. and since i know yall are pic -----s here ya go:

turbo from a 2.2l chrysler

compressor off. a little freshening up and rebuild. dont worry the seals are fine i just spilled a quart of oil on my bench, the worst part is it was mobil one and that ---- aint cheap

manifold (no flange yet)

manifold with compressor attached ( what i did was has hack the flange off of another manifold (chrysler) and weld it on)

intercooler from an FC RX7

I AM THE WORST TURBO EVER I ONLY BOOST 2.5 PSI! DAMMIT!!! oh yeah that my boost guage from a shelby daytona hacked up so it doesnt have the gay door ajar ---- attached

so yeah im pretty close right now i have a bunch of charge piping and couplers and a boost proportional FMU. I still need to fab a downpipe and get some other misc. things

WHAT DO YOU THINK NIG NOGS

Re: noobers first turbo ****PICTURES****

As was mentioned in your thread on HT.... turbo is going to be soooo low... I suspect drainage issues. You are better off with an HF manifold... brings turbo up couple inches.

Re: noobers first turbo ****PICTURES****

Looks good but like mentioned its probably gonna be too low

Re: noobers first turbo ****PICTURES****

Well instead of needing 2 90's to get his downpipe to line up with the exhaust he'll only need one now O0

Im loving that old school boost gauge, just make sure you dont max it out.

Re: noobers first turbo ****PICTURES****

i think you are gonna have some problems with the drainage, and the turbo will also hit a stock crossmember if its an EF.

you can see how high i have to cut the manifolds and even angle the flange, and the CHRA a little bit to get the drainback to enter right around the oil pan's baffle. might hafta do that one over.

mike_belben 03-01-2006 05:20 PM

Re: noobers first turbo ****PICTURES****

two more pics, motor is leaning forward alot on the bench so its not quite as bad as it looks. about a 30 degree drain angle in the car.

Re: noobers first turbo ****PICTURES****

I like how your manifold turned out, it's pretty clean, but I think splittime + everyone who posted after him is right about clearance problems. Turbos almost hang too low with HF manifolds, which it was pointed out would raise your turbo up a bit.

BTW, I have a Volvo boost gauge... no graduations, it's just colored shwoopies that go from green and into red the higher the needle goes. It's supposed to max out, I guess, somewhere in the 15 psi range. You don't need precise numbers if you've tuned the ECU, you just need to know the needle's staying about where it always does. *shrug*

well guys thanks to mike's picture and a little math i cut apart the mani and rewelded it using a mockup motor yayyyyyyyyyalso decided to notch the block and mount the turbo theopposite way from which you guys do it because the stupid stock exhaust housing will actually work. anyways here ya go......

manifold

compared to mike's

Attachment 35900

and the old version which was a piece of ----

thanks a lot for the advice and help

Re: noobers first turbo ****PICTURES****

Just a silly idea here. But it could work out for you.

You see that heatshield mount between ports 2 and 3? And the turbine housings bracket with the big hole in it? Well, what about making a support bar to go between the two? It might help prevent any welds breaking. But then again, depending on your clearance, you might have to grind off that turbine bracket.

Just a thought.

EDIT *** disreguard. I just reread your post and you decided to mount the turbo with the flange towards the block. Correct me if I misread that.***
