no downpipe

Exhaust restrictions on a turbo car rob power. So, why dont people pull off the downpipe alltogether while at the track. If nothing would get hurt from the hot exhaust under the hood then why not?

Re:no downpipe

i heard that with at least a short downpipe, the back pressure would help the turbo spool better and get a little more power....i could be wrong

Im pretty sure you need atleast a little bit of back pressure.

I can notice a huge diference when im running just my downpipe(greddy) or my downpipe w/ my straight pipe.

Might not be true, but it feels like its quicker at lower speeds, and slower at higher speeds with just the downpipe. I have no idea whether thats true or not.

I don't think that extra foot of pipe after the turbo is going to rob them any power. I'm sure it's just to kep the exhaust/heat out of the engine compartment. Just think about what would happen under your hood at 7000 rpm with no downpipe. Now imagine a backfire or something. :o

Re:no downpipe

lets say i install my setup in my garage and want to take it somewhere else to have a downpipe made.

i shouldn't have any problem getting from my house to another garage w/o a downpipe, right?

should i just take it easy and try to keep low rpms?

you shouldnt have to worry too much. my friend has been running a turbo and his integra with no downpipe for about a month now and no problems except black ---- in the engine bay from the exhaust gases...

Exactly. You just have to worry about where the exhaust points so you don't melt anything.
