No boost no leaks...
I have a problem with my turbo (I think). I have ZC VTEC and it is I/C & turbocharged. I cannot boost at all. I have checked for leaks (and found zero); I have replaced the wastegate (and the problem persist); I took the turbo off and had it inspected at Turbo City in Anaheim and the turbo is fine and it does not leak oil nor does it have any shaft play. So what can be wrong? Does anyone have any suggestions or similar problems? Thanks

Re: No boost no leaks...
One of three things are broken, even though you say they aren't.
1. Boost leak. Check all couplers thoroughly. 2. Wastegate. Could be stuck open, depending on how it's mounted. Internal or external? 3. Turbo's fucked. |
Re: No boost no leaks...
4. Leaky BOV

(5.) exaust is to restrictive to let the turbo spooled up proper like.
|
Re: No boost no leaks...
Nah, even with stock exhaust it will still produce boost. Even with a clogged cat he should get a few psi.
|
Re: No boost no leaks...
I removed the BOV pipe and replaced it with a new pipe. So no BOV at this time. I have stock cat with Tanabe exhaust system. All couplers were checked and they are all fine. The turbo has internal wg but I already tried running it with the wg disconnected and also the vacuum line from turbo to wg disconnected but it does not spike or even produce boost.

Re: No boost no leaks...
Well if your wastegate is disconnected you definitely won't boost, your flapper will just flap open all the time and your exhaust gasses will bypass the turbo. Check this:
With your wastegate hooked up and your car off, is your flapper closed? Feel it with your hand, it shouldn't open unless you pull on it a good amount. If it opens up very easily then your wastegate is probably faulty. |
Re: No boost no leaks...
can you post pics of the set up?
|
Re: No boost no leaks...
silly answer but true.
are you running the car or just reving it? also, what boost controller you using? |
Re: No boost no leaks...
Both. I revved the motor and ran it and still no boost. I also did another thing: my back door neighbor has the exact same turbo setup I have (Greddy Td04...) and I drove his car. It boosts well enough. Anyway, last night I swapped out my turbo with his and it still does not allow any boost. I was barely able to hear the wastegate sound off on both turbos. Any suggestions or other diagnostics? Thanks

Re: No boost no leaks...
take your downpipe off and see if you get boost.

Re: No boost no leaks...
remove the outlet coupler, put a load on the engine with the ebrake and put it in gear. rev it up some (and feathering the clutch to create load) and have a friend put his hand over the turbo outlet (be careful) and see if it creates pressure. Ghetto, but it'll tell you if the turbo is moving air or not (which im sure it is)

Re: No boost no leaks...
I am not running a boost controller. I am running my vacuum line to my wg from my turbo. Is that enough vacuum source? Also I have the missing link connected between the MAP sensor & throttle body.

Re: No boost no leaks...
vaccum routing is correct.
|
Re: No boost no leaks...
Are there any other last minute tests I can do to check why my turbo is not boosting?
|
Re: No boost no leaks...
still sounds like a big leak somewhere. turbo should be fine. that guy at turbo city really knows his stuff. ive been there.
or how do you know you have no boost? do you have a boost guage? maybe its faulty? matt |
Re: No boost no leaks...
we had a problem on quicksilv1a civic when he had the stock exhuast and stock cat. we ran it open downpipe and it biult boost. try that

Re: No boost no leaks...
what are you using as a filter?
|
Re: No boost no leaks...
I am running a stock cat. with a Tanabe full exhaust system. I will remove the cat and run a test pipe and see if it makes a difference. Also I have a boost gauge but it only reads vacuum as it cannot read boost because of the boost problem. There are no more leaks because I've already pressured the charge pipes, turbo, i/c, motor, etc. with air from a compressor and there were no leaks. The boost gauge is fully functional. I think I will be able to feel the car boosting if the gauge works or not. I am running an imitation HKS filter and a Greddy like charge pipe. But why would the filter matter?

Re: No boost no leaks...
if your using a filter that is too restrictive it would not boost. take off the filter and try it out. chances are with that knock off filter you sucked that bitch in :1

Re: No boost no leaks...
I've finally fixed the boosting problem. I think my cat was clogged and I unbolted my dp from the cat and ran it. It does boost quite well. Thanks :)
