NO Boost?????
So, last night I decided to go ahead and put my wastegate on. Everything seems to be going good until I go to test drive it and see what pound level I am at. As I am accelerating, I realize I am not making any boost at all. Does anyone have an idea of what might be wrong.
Here is my setup: D16Z6 HF->14B Stock 14B wastegate 1G DSM BOV 450cc Injectors FMIC Uberdata Chipped P28 My first tought was my wastegate is bad, then I got checking my BOV and it is sucking air in. So I dont know what is wrong. HELP ME OUT PLEASE! I am begging here! |
Re: NO Boost?????
Boost leak? I'm sure you've checked all your couplers and everything, right? Made sure the WG is on properly and that the flapper is COMPLETLY shut?

Re: NO Boost?????
Start it up and feel around for leaks. If anything on your setup looks rigged, fix it.
You could wire the wastegate shut and just boost a few pounds to see if it's failing. |
Re: NO Boost?????
Ive checked all my vac. lines and couplers and welds. Nothing. On the 14B wastegate, how can you tell if it is good or not? I thought that the flapper arm(the thing the wastegate connects to) should be towards the compressor part of the turbo. my wastegate is conencted to the short vaccum hose that runs off the back of the intake manifold, looks like a black canister attached to the manifold with the vaccum line being about 3 inches long then connecting to the bottom of the manifold. Could that be my problem?

WTF?! I don't know do what he (95RedEX) said and wire your WG shut that way you KNOW it's closed and it's not leaking. Just don't be a nig and put it to the floor to redline or something, because your going to build boost forever. Just to like 1/4 -1/2 in and about 3000rpm and see if your reading anything. JP |
Re: NO Boost?????
sounds like ur flapper is wide open to me

Re: NO Boost?????
Sounds to me that your wastegate orientation is wrong or is too long and keeping the flapper open a bit. Take off the rod and see if the flapper closes a bit more on its own. If it does that is your problem.

Re: NO Boost?????
having the dsm bov slightly open at idle is fine. does it close if you give it some throttle.
you said the wg vacuum source comes from a black box behind the mani. so you put in a t and the other side goes directly to the intake manifold right? |

Re: NO Boost?????
Does anyone have a picture of a 14B trubo with the wastegate properly attached. I think my wastegate is mounted wrong and satying held open. I would like to see it mounted to see which way it holds it shut, so I can go and adjust mine accordingly. This picture can easily be taken from a turbo that is not mounted yet(for those who dont know how to get this picture once it is mounted).

Re: NO Boost?????
hah you may have done what i did man, the arm for the flapper should be pushed back away from the turbo to be closed
