No Boost!!!

i have a 14b DSM setup we installed into my 96 D16Y7. the setup consists of the 14b turbo, standard HF manifold, custom 2" charge pipe, 90 supra intercooler, 91 DSM plastic/rubber BOV, 450 DSM injectors and a standard SMC. our first problem was that the 2nd cylinder was not receiving fuel with a resistor box wired in before the 90 honda injector plugs but we figured that we should do without the resistor box and wire four individual radio shack 10 volt resistors in front of plugs and that problem was fixed. the big question is, WHERE'S THE BOOST??? we've tried a couple of test. checked for leaks in the weldings of the charge pipe with soap for bubbles, nothing. checked tightness of rubber connectors on charge pipe, nothing. checked wastegate to see if it's operating correctly, nothing. checked vaccuum hoses, nothing. the intercooler we had to modify and weld a new opening on right side for pipe from turbo. we're not really sure if it's the welding, so we took off the intercooler and ran a straight pipe from right to left side. STILL NO BOOST!!!! if anyone has any ideas or knows what we have to do PLEASE REPLY!!!!

Well at least you had the sence to try everything before making a post, good ----. This is wierd asking this but does it sound like the turbo is spooling? Could be a problem with the actuator. What are you using as a filter. If it is a rag then take it off. also check the BOV as a source for leaking boost. Thats really all i can think of. Good luck! Oh, check the wiring of your boost gueage as well. BTW, if you are using the SAFC then it will never read a positive number.

Re:No Boost!!!

yes, the turbo is spooling but just to a point where you can hardly hear it. when i let the car idle, the needle on the boost gauge sits at about 12 on the vaccuum side. when i go ahead and drive the car it goes to 0 and no futher. so i guess that the boost gauge is working fine.

i'm not actually using a rag for the filter. i've cut out a wired window screen along with a thin piece of cloth that's almost like a nylon material. and i've clamped that on to the intake side of the turbo. could that be it?

i'll have to check the BOV. my buddy has another one for us to try. and i don't know if it's the actuator.

if anyone knows what going on PLEASE REPLY.

sounds kinda like my prob but i only get about 4psi tops and my boost gauge reads 20 vac at idle. i have tried everything you mentioned and still nothing, i'm gonna work on it some more once i put my vafc and injectors in. hope you fix it soon so i can see if that was the same prob.

12 vac is bad. sure its running right?

maybe the boost gauge is fucked... but i guess the turbo would be going crazy if it really was working hard. what kinda shape is the turbo in? getting good oil?

Re:No Boost!!!

try just running that screen...12 vac makes me think you have a bad intake manifold gasket or tb gasket, or a hose loose somewhere

Re:No Boost!!!

run a pipe without the bov.

also make sure the wastegate actuator arm is tight. you can tighten it and pull the arm before connecting it to the flapper. i had a problem where it was leaking the pressure.

I agree that 12V is not good vaccum. I'd eliminate the BOV for sure. My money is on the POS BOV...

Your not going to hurt anything by not running a bov for a few runs, just try not to let the throttle slap shut while under boost..

Re:No Boost!!!

OOOOOOOO i think i got the answer, muhahaha, my question for you is...what did you do for your downpipe and your exhaust piping size and muffler?

my opinion:
if you dont have good flow, the turbo wont spool up, cuz the flow will be restricted.

reference/experience:
on my turbo integra, i have 2.5" piping for downpipe and catback, with a cutout on my downpipe, and had a decent high flow muffler. i had to get muffler replaced with stock, cuz it was too loud for my neighbor hood, then all the sudden i couldnt boost past 3psi...i was like..wtf! stock muffler blocking my air flow! so now to get my yummy 8psi, i open my cutout.

hope this helps

Re:No Boost!!!

I had my car running 7 psi without any downpipe...just an open turbo.
I think it's the nylon cloth or the BOV...a nylon cloth is really restrictive.
