a newbie to this place and megasquirt but not to turbos
im looking for some crash course information on megasquirt efi. i own a few turbo cars but my latest purchase is an 87 crx si with what im assuming is a full blown drag race ready turbo setup on a fully built oe motor. i understand most of the terminology with a scantool on a stock ecu but this megasquirt has me baffled? i bought all the doodads i needed to mess with it but the program is something forigen to me. heres what i was told about it. 1.5 sohc turbo 250+hp at flywheel, megasquirt efi, some kind of large fuel pump, rising rate fp regulator, msd 6-al, msd boost timing master, motor has been modified internally but i dont know exactly what, custom built clutch. it runs a tad rich (WEGO) i want to fix it but dont want to mess anything up. any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! p.s. how do you get something like this to get traction in 1st 2nd or 3rd? i put 225 45 16s on it hoping for some more stick but it doesnt help. already reduced the boost a bit. 5lbs or so.

Megasquirt is **** on a bull when you own a Honduh. Should have done an OBD0 or OBD1 conversion.
MSD is a pretty caveman ignition compared to stock Honduh.
HMT isn't going to be real rich on MS info, I suggest you read the MS FAQ for specific Q's? It's pretty easy to adjust fuel maps on MS if you've ever tinkered any standalone, so I really don't know where to begin except to say that you're scaring me? Also, you are supposed to run a tad rich on a turbo car... you're going to have to be a LOT more specific - and learn a hair about how to use your MS - before you get any specific advice from me.
Traction is pretty easy. 1) alignment, 2) eliminating unwanted wheel deflection and positively locating the wheel. At 250 whp your 1st gear will be short and spin up top, but on good street tires you can hook in 2nd and lay all 250 down.

So it's up and running now?
You'll need a laptop to "mess" with it, but MS is a very powerful and affordable stand alone.
Get the laptop, install megatune from:
http://www.megamanual.com/files/software/
Read the megatune manual:
http://www.megamanual.com/megatune.htm
If you post to the megasquirt forum(s) without reading the manual, it's likely that you won't get much of a response.
The "VE table" tunes fuel. You may or may not have a target AFR that's defined in megasquirt.

yeah its up and running aok. even in 10 below zero weather. i bought a laptop and downloaded all the progams i needed to play with it. the only reason i say it runs rich is because it has some serious soot come from the exhaust i notice with someone else driving. i know its not a problem like oil comsumption. the WEGO dips into the low 12's under acceleration. seems a bit much to me. as far as traction i had an aallignment done when i bought the wheel n tire package for it. this thing gets hideous 2 tire rubber from first to third. and yes 1st is about not needed. i was thinking of another tranny that might have higher gears? it runs out quick at about 130 or so. lil something to make you honda guys happy: my buddies 95 ZZ4 powerd s-10 is no match for this lil rocket. now hes looking for a blower. as soon as i get some other doodads for this pc ill be posting some pics of this car and others including safely modded 87 starion and a 74 datsun 240z with every aftermarket option available in the 70's. p.s. 27mpg if im nice to it 21 worst ive seen it.

Low 12's is not low enough for a boosted car. Flat 12 at 250 whp level is your target, 11.5's for higher power.
Now, if it's richer than the indicated low 12's, there's a chance you're misfiring from being too rich and the unburnt air being passed across the wideband sensor is causing a false-lean reading.
PS - 130 mph is a common complaint about those cars' gearing, but until you can lay 2nd and 3rd down without wheelspin I respectfully state you're wasting your time. You have suspension/tire/alignment issues causing poor traction. Go to the track or pull off some parkinglot mayhem, have a friend videotape your wheels jitterbugging around at launch.

i have already watched a launch. its crazay. it looks like its going to pull a wheelie then tire fire. first three gears. the odo just broke 100k. this is the 5th 1st gen crx ive had and i got to say to drive it the car seems 100% sound other than a rear wheel bearing starting to go bad(slight humm) but that shouldnt cause it to have abnormal wheelspin. it has a stock lightend flywheel too. i wonder if a diffrent turbo that didnt hit as hard would eliminate some of the wheelspin? my father suggested putting the motor in the trunk!! hahaha. i knew i bought that tig welder for something.
