Default Newbie

hey guys, I've been thinking about turboing my ZC civic for a while now and just the other day I went out to my local junkyard to find a turbo set up and I found an IHI RHB5 turbo from a Subaru, no shaft play what so ever, the impellers spin with ease, but Im not sure about the seals, I snatched it all out for only $50 so I can't complain. It has the tricky triangular exhaust flange and Im sure I can fabricate an adaptor plate for it. I took just about everypart off of the Subaru I could get, even the down pipe. Does anyone know what this turbo puts out PSI wise? As far as the fuel management, I was going to go with the injector hack using 320cc injectors, intercooler and check valves. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Im a huge newbie when it comes to turbo's but I have a few friends who are going to help me out, but they have DSM's and a Turbo Escort. I need some HONDA help. Thanks.

Thanks, Yeah im in no hurry (yeah right ) Im just putting the peices together right now. I just want it somewhat done by the end of July. I've got nitrous to hold me over, but I want constant boost. Besides the nitrous is getting expensive. This website kicks *** though. There seems to be a lot of knowledgable people in here.

Escorts and DSMs have their place. Mostly on their own boards, more then enough out there for DSM research. Honda too has it's end all research forum called H-T, look to them for some crazy JDM answer that you can't find anywhere else.

Someone is bound to follow me on this lead, but get you some 450 injectors, go with full fuel management on your OBD0/1 setup and hookup with the rom editors found in the fuel management section of this website, very practical. Follow the examples set for the rest of the turbo projects, look to the main page.

Research is the key to your success, do plenty before making any moves, I can't really complain about stripping a scoobie-do either. Unless you are running a wet shot of nitrous with some management, be carefull, that is the easiest way to toast your motor. Feel free to post back with what you have going on.

320cc injectors wont scale down the map voltage enough to let you run a descent amount of boost. You might get a CEL doue to the fact that the map will see boost at maybe ay 7-8psi.Im using 390s @7 psi with the hack and thats pushing it.

Though chipping is better its not for every one and defenitly not a necesity to run boost on a Honda.Ive been running my setup for 4k miles now and have had noproblems what so ever.

If you do run the hack though there is no need for check valves. What check valves do is release boost at the map sensor so it doesnt see the full psi of boost your running.
The hack needs to see the full amount of boost in order to modefy the signal. There are some people like RENR that are running the hack with 1 check valve but thats couse hes running 12psi and you cant fool the stock sensor even with the hack at that boost level.

So let me get this straight, the best/cheapest way for me to go is to buy a set of 420cc injectors right? Im a little confused, but I'll make it. What else for the fuel management do I need? Larger fuel pump? stuff like that?

I think 450s might be the cheapest, DSM products are plentifull. Most likely will need a nice walbro fuel pump to complete the fuel section. For managment, why would you not just go for uberdata and chip your existing OBD1 setup? This forum has a dedicated section for self chippers, will be my first choice on any hondas I shall turbo. This all boils down to the total extent of the motor/boost.

In no way am I a ZC guy, so please ZC people step in.

The hack is fine for up to 10 psi, a lot of people rung it, but I don't recommend it unless you're out of money and need boost, like a yunkie needs drugs.
Turboedit is your friend....read about it in the engine management section of the forum.

I have OBD0 right now. I don't mean to sound retarded but, whats the deal with this Uberdata chip. Is it just some chip you put in place of another that tweeks the computer to run boost? And where can I get one? im not going too cheap with this turbo, but I don't want to spend $1000 on a ZDYNE SECU also. I don't mind spending around $300 or $400 on the fuel management system (fuel pump, chip, injectors... ect.) Thanks guys, I really dont want to destroy my engine if I can help it.

Go check out the info for your ecu modifier of your choice. They will point you in the right direction. Essentially you buy a burner, burn a chip, solder a ZIF socket (zero insertion force) into your ecu, insert your custom burnt chips. Close to what zdyne or hondata does, but not the 1k price tag. Look into it more.
