new to turbo some questions
 

im new to the turbo world i have an 86 civic si hb f/i 1.5 is there a way to turbo this motor homemade and if so how and what will i need like i said bare with me i have read things on here for 2 days and seen nothing about this particular motor someone please help

The first thing you're gonna need, which is almost the most crucial is a turbo manifold. Some of the guys here with cars almost like yours make a flange so they can mount a turbo to their stock manifold maybe you could do that in your car. The perfect turbo for your car would be a mitsubishi eclipse t25. Anything bigger would give you quite a bit of turbo lag. Check the turbo projects section
so you could get some ideas of what I'm talking about when it comes to the flange used to mount a turbo to your stock manifold.
The most crucialist of things is fuel management. Since your ecu is obd0 you could program a new prom chip for it to suit your boosting needs. If not you could always use a Vafc and dsm 450 injectors. Go to the FAQ "frequently asked questions" section so you could get a good understanding of how to boost. For fuel management go to engine management. They have a FAQ there too. You're in the right place.

I'd go with an IHI RHB5 over a t25 if you're starting for ground zero. With any turbo/engine compatibility question, you really need to plot points on compressor maps to know for sure if you have a good match.

There are 3 options that will get you started.

1. I've put up a few posts on the subject, just search for them in the GD, FI and Hybrid/Tech forums for post posted in by me with keywords "Compressor Maps".

A. Get the book maximum boost, which is where most of my info is derived from anyway.

4. use google to find sites on the subject. I have a bunch bookmarked at home, but I'm at work right now.

Do you know which ecu your car has?

Have you thought about maybe swapping up to a more recent motor in that car? I once had to ---- with an '86 honda and that motor gave me lots of problems (carbureted POS). Eventually a ring let go on it, it was never beaten up or abused (my grandma bought it new from the dealership.

His motor is fuel injected. Isn't f/i fuel injected? it says it in his description up top.

Yeah, I realize his car is fuel injected.. I was only sharing my experience with that year in the carb version.. they are pieces of ----.
