Default New turbo crx project (pics of car..56k warning)

Hi all, I’ve been reading the forum for a while now and I just recently purchased an 88 CRX SI. It had some minor damage and ‘modification’ when I got it. The rear quarters have some rust in the usual spots (where the bumper and quarter meet) and a little around the drivers side wheel well. The door has a patch of rust on the skin around the lower door cladding. The door jamb area and rear hatch jamb are free of rust and rot. The sunroof panel is rotted but I plan on making a new one so its’ not a big deal. The car has been in a couple minor fender benders as well. The fenders and hood needed replacement. It looks like it rear ended a 1500 pickup with a hitch. The hood was pushed in around the front body line, the headlights were old and decrepit, the fenders were just beaten (passenger is in fair condition). The fender was pushed against the drivers’ door and someone opened the door which creased both the fender and door. The rear bumper was also pushed in a little but (maybe a quarter to half an inch). I pulled the fenders, hood, bumper assembly, headlights, and rear bumper assembly. Under all the sheet metal, the structure of the vehicle is very sound. There is no rot or damage to anything else actually. One final thing, the engine blew up at one point apparently and the previous owners swapped in a d15b2 block and kept everything else from the d16 on the engine.

(I have the complete interior, I just took it apart to play with the heater box cables and control.)
I already have certified fenders and a hood, new headlights and hatch struts for this thing. There was 4 different size wheels on the car when I got it, 3 of them wouldn’t even bolt up properly. My friend had a set of ASA 17’s sitting at his house so I acquired those off of him. I plan on replacing them with some 15” or 16” though. The door wasn’t worth my time to try and fix so I picked one up from a local junkyard as well as some other small things I was missing from the interior (those removable trim piece caps in the back). I have a friend that does really good welding coming over one of these days to weld in some new metal where the cars rotted. He also offered to shave the passenger door as well as the antenna, hood holes, washer fluid nipple on the roof and the wiper arm on the hatch. The drivers door is at my friends shop right now, he’s going to clean the door up, shave the handle, and remove the seatbelt holes (its from a 90 or 91 CRX).

I have begun collecting parts for the turbo kit already. I have a large intercooler (29x11x3) and a Garrett turbo off a 2.2 Daytona. I acquired both for pretty much nothing so that’s about the only reason I’ll be using them. There is a b18b2 Integra at my shop in a car that a customer couldn’t pay for so I’ll be stealing the engine and trans out of that before we ship it off to the scrap yard. I plan on getting this car running so I can drive it, I’ll be collecting parts for it all the while. I plan on getting the wings west kit for the car to clean it up as well as painting it satin black.

Sell the wheels and get some stockers, and use the rest of the money to get new body parts/restore the car. Save the rex man!

I plan on it, my neighbor wants them for his saturn. I just have them as rollers right now. The lopsided car syndrom wasnt working. I'm going with a black and red theme on this car so I want some 15's (possibly SI wheels or 5 spoke) powdercoated satin red. I think it'll look good with 5% tint all around.

I'm keeping this car clean and simple. No over the top body kit, no 3 foot wing, no rice exhaust. The only thing remotely rice that im going to have is straight clear lights all around and small 5 spoke wheels. I like the looks of the buddy club race wheels.
I have a nice sounding magnaflow muffler 2 1/2 in 2 1/4 out, that should be good for right now. I'll be welding the exhaust up one of these days. I have to measure and do everything by hand since I had no stock exhaust on the vehicle to base it off of.

Black and red theme like that of your avatar? How bout some gsr mesh wheels painted gun metal with the lip painted red? It would looks killer on a black rex. Your car looks to be coming along really nice man. Post some more pics and keep up updated.

Yeah my avatar is my idea for what it will look like. I also like those gsr mesh wheels (I just looked them up), they have potential. I think I like solid red wheels though, I just like how it looks against the solid black car.

nice IC I have the same one. You can retain the bumper support and mount it up cleanly. You just need to cut everything off except the top surface. Put two holes on the top for the bolts and you got a easily mounted IC that is real sturdy.

Nice, I like that setup. I plan on having the wings west kit so there'll be enough room in the front so I wont have to put the holes in there. As far as the bumper bar goes, its just more shrapnel to clean off the road anyways. No but seriously, I plan on making a tubular bumper bar once I get the kit. I'll be mounting the intercooler before I actually turbo the car as well. I just need to find a classy looking grille for it and i'll be all set.

Nothing really new to post about the car, tomorrow my tails and paint should be here. My neighbor likes the rims off this car and said he'd buy them to put on his saturn so I'll most likely just sell them off to him and purchase something else. I can check with the local yards and shops that I know around here and see if I can come up with something a little less blingy and a little smaller.
