Anybody else think that "brace" kinda looks like the little support braces for the DIY shelving?

Here is a bad picture, but everybody probably knows what I am talking about.

They are pretty strong if pushed on straight down, but if you twist them any they will bends prety easy.
Something stronger would of probaly helped, but doubt it would of saved that manifold.

I agree totally. It should be noted however that I am running a Holset HX35 that tips the scales to the tune of 35lbs, give or take.

1st clarification) That brace is actually an intake manifold brace from underneath a d-series. Modified with some plates for attachment of course. I could litterally stand on the brace when it was in place on the block. The manifold could be unbolted from the turbo and removed without ever moving the turbo. So baically there was zero weight left on the manifold itself. It lasted for about 600miles after me bracing it....before I was getting 3~400 between tear downs to fix cracks. All miles accounted for I'd say I have less than 2000 on the manifold.

2nd clarification) That manifold broke muliple times. Many times it just cracked and I had to take it off and have it TIG'd up. The w/g "stalk" tried to fall off twice. One time I had to have the flange welded back on when it fell off with the turbo attached(1st pic) The last time it broke I had that brace in place. The brace did it's job and held the turbo in place just fine. Only problem was that the manifold is made of such shitty material the it acutally blew the center of the collector out. I'm talking about the inside where the runner all meet and is welded in the center, it was just gone. I was left with a $.25 sized hole and alot of hair-line cracks through-out the collector area. It comes down to the fact that it's a poorly constructed manifold, both in quality of workmanship and in quality of product. The metal is cheap and thin.

I love to see how so many people are quick to point blame at the individual rather than a product known for failure.
