New project + questions
I finally started the project because I have finally have the extra money. I am going to rehone the block and redo all seals and gaskets along the way.
Block:
y7 block 123,000 miles before rehone
vitara pistons
tuner toy rods
OEM Honda bearings
arp rod bolts
Head:
z6 head
OEM Hondata head gasket
arp head studs
ECU:
p28 tuning?
Turbo:
T25 turbo
crappy ebay manifold for now
I am going to home port the head, port match the throttle body, and intake manifold. I am gonna go with a y8 intake manifold, and an f22 throttle body. I also plan on going with an aftermarket cam probably skunk2 but I wanna see what I run before any aftermarket parts are added. My question would be what is the best way for me to tune this motor? I have never tuned a motor before so I won't be tuning it myself. If anyone knows of any tuners in Colorado around the Denver area that would be kick ***. Any other suggestions or tips would be awesome let me know. I am shooting for like 200 ish horsepower. The motor will either be in a crx I buy in the future after the motor is completed or in my civic either way it is being built for autocross type racing.

Don't use a z6 head on the y7 block, use a z6 intakemani. T25 for a built motor
. If its going into a crx you are going to need a jumper harness. How big is a f22 tb?
Edit; here are some write ups for diy head porting;

Yeah I wrote those websites down when you posted them before. I studied up on them and ported two heads already. Both on a 350 in a firebird. But yeah I am using a t25 for a reason I want a lot of low end pull. My top end will be weak but whatever. The dx tranny has a long *** gear ratio so having a ton of torque down low will give me an advantage. But yeah I am only building the motor for insurance, so I am not constantly fixing crap. I am using the y7 block cause it is what I got, and the y8 mani was an afterthought. It would probably be easier to just go with the z6. Considering the same guy I am getting the head, turbo, and manifold from has an intake mani for sale too. But why shouldn't I use a t25 on a build motor? lack of flow? lack of potential power?
the t25 will die out real quick. it will give you fast spool but nothing after about 5500 rpm's. i used one on my first setup on my y8, it was fun just because it was boosted but it gets boreing real fast haveing no top end. i upgraded to a 42/48 which was a little better but still wanted more top end so i got a 60/63 and was happy. plus the T3 flange is always a better choice because you can upgrade easier without haveing to reweld flanges on the manifold.
why not? i was thinking about doign the same because i have a y7 with low miles and runs good and also have a z6 but dont want to chance the bottom end how it is and dont want to rebuild it just yet. i know the compression gets bumped up a little but not that much.

Well I know why I am building the motor and where I need/want the power so having the power below 5500 rpm isn't a problem. With my long gearing I can be doing 80 in 3rd under 5500 rpms. That is my point I want low end torque so going into a corner or something I can shift down and accelerate through the turn. I will have boost all through the gear til about 1000 rpm before shift point. That isn't that big of a deal. And for the deal I am getting for this manifold, turbo, and head I am not gonna pass it up.
I got where you are coming from bro and to be real honest I will most likely upgrade at some point maybe before the motor is done. But either way right now I am liking the t25 idea. I have been planning this for a long time and just looking for deals and buying the cheap stuff I find along the way. I am also toying with the idea of taking my y8 block out of my car and using that motor instead cause it already has arp head studs, a new head gasket and a turbo oil pan that will be used with whichever motor I build.
my T25 puts out power till 6500... last dyno pull it looked like power was still climbing at 6500, its just they dont make alot of power lol. And yes u do want to upgrade pretty quick with this little guy.
Regardless of when I will upgrade. I paid $175 for the head, manifold, and turbo...so I think I got a pretty good deal. Any reason why I should go with the z6 mani instead of the y8? I have heard the y8 mani is like the ITR manifold of the d-series motors.
