well i've been a member for a lil while.. just read stuff my friends sent me links for... loved Jeff's diy ITBs!

anyway.. a friend wanted me to do some fab work on an intercooler for his sohc EG turbo setup.. and wanted me to chips his p28 ecu for boost. offered to trade me this turbo for it... (he has another turbo he's using for his setup)
i dont know anything about turbos but decided it would be fun to fab up a custom setup on my DA with poor mans ITR swap.. (b18c1 block w/b16a head)
i've got several friends online to help me with the project.. but just wondering if anyone knows much about this turbo.. here's the pics.

Trip K Turbos were primarily German made and you'll usually find them on Porsches, Audi's and mid 80's BMW 745i's. KKK stands for Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch the founders of the company from Germany. They're also know as Schwitzer (US counterpart) and Holset (UK counterpart). Little history lesson for ya

Your pics aren't high enough res so that I can read what model the turbo is. There are many different variations of the KKK turbos. You need to find out which one it is and get a compressor map for it then do some math and plot points to find out if it's a good match to the engine you're planning to boost. If it isn't, sell it and get one that is.

i know my KKK's and thats worth some decent cash man...

its off a 1977 porsche 930. its a 3LDZ turbo. this is off a 3 liter so i mean on a b16a it would work fine i am sure. its a pretty big snail.

76' 77 were the only years this turbo was ever made.

i will see if i can scrounge up some specs for you.

LOL thanks Jason..

problem is, is barely anyone in the honda community uses these turbo's as to why i dont know because the k26 is quite near a t3 .60 .68 . the quality of how they are made is another reason sometimes buying german engineering pays off.

i have seen 14b's that are like 5 years old, the turbine housing cracks and looks liek ---- after that. i saw a 20 year old k26's in mint condition.

good luck with that thing, and about specs try to post on a porsche forum about some.. i know a k26 map exists but i have no idea on the 3ldz.

thanks shortyz, you know of any particular porche forums to look at? or do i need to do a google search for as many porsche forums as i can?
thanks again,

edit:
here's a quote from ninemeister in UK
"no factory 930 ever made has a K26 turbo, they were fitted with the mother of all turbos, the 3LDZ unit which was initially designed by KKK for a marine diesel engine. The 3LDZ unit is immensely strong but it is dynamically heavy and old"

kinda interesting he referred to the 3ldz as mother of all turbos
