New homemade project

I am currently turboing a 1995 Eagle Talon N/T...this is the third one ive done and they actually are identical to the way of turboing a honda...just higher rewards due to it being a 2.0...im going to put the complete walk-through on here incase anyone has any tips or info on something that can be done differently...First a rundown on the car...it is powered by a rebuilt 420a motor (which for you honda guys is a 2.0L 140hp DOHC motor= WEAK)...so far the car has 3" exhaust, ~56mm bored throttle body (up from 52mm), port and polished intake manifold, port-matched head, accel 19lbs fuel injectors (will explain y only 19 for whoever doesnt already know), 6 puck sprung clutch, 1993 turbo eclipse fuel pump, MSD coilpack(soon to be replaced by individual coils), and a whole lot of anti-theft kills...the best times for the car to date is a 15.9 at 103 mph...this time is a result of a shitty launch because of a garbage track and LONNNGGGG gearing...my tranny has already had the gearing changed to be the same as the 1995 GST gear ratios (finished the quarter in 3rd gear at 6700rpm)...going to put the car on 10psi of boost to start out with like my last car (1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS)...now before all the honda guys go crazy and say y is this guy here and everything im going to let it be known i have had 4 civics and a integra...my civics were '91 hatch(turboed ZC), '92 hatch (turbo B16),'95 coupe EX (all-motor B16), '96 coupe(nitroused GSR),and '97 hatch (turbo GSR)...my integra was a '93 B18a block/B16a head, CTR cams, and ~9psi of boost...for the last 2 years or so i moved to mitsus for a new challenge...they basically are the same setup with the Map sensor, oil pressure switch and everything else...the one thing i like the stock manifold can be made into a turbo manifold for about $50..and these motors LOVE boost...with very little overlap on the cams and a pretty low compression it shouldnt be hard getting into the 12s with this...my last car ran a 13.4 on 9psi of boost and this was on a garbage tranny and trash suspension...would've gone farthur with that car but due to a gf that likes racing and wet roads that DSM is no longer with us...but anyone that has any advise as this goes along it will be greatly appreciated

Re:New homemade project

i do... work fine. use 4 of them and put them in line like this

<~~~~~ to intake manifold // to map ~~~~~>

(intake mani)------||--||--||---------------||--(map)
|| || || ||
|| || || ||
/ \ / \/ \ / \
| | | || | | |
\/ \/ \/ \/
the first 3 are like main bleeds then the last one is the jus incase valve.. gets the rest that tries to go to the map

I have a file of like 50 slips from various cars and i was writing from memory...but i dont know im focusing on this car now and i was just looking for some advise from a different point of view...I have LOTS of Mitsu friends down here but turboing a non-turbo is something that ive only done..so the fact the N/t DSM are so close to the hondas im here...if your really worried about my times you can run my '93 Talon for slips and we'll see if i forget the times then 12.4 @112mph before nitrous..im at Moroso every Friday they are open for whoever wants to play

must be no traction - that is what my neon ran when it was new before any mods. except 15.9 @ 87mph - that was with a 2.5 60ft. I will post the slips later. I think your car weighs more though, mine was 2350lbs. I have an R/T that has a close ratio tranny and a 3.94 end gear. You can pick those up for almost nothing but most people that are turbo swap for a 350 end gear.

There is an electronic overboost eliminator you can build for about $5.00 I have the parts I will send you if you send me $7.00 for parts and shipping.

I have turboed quite a few neons and eclipse's

And you engine should be 150hp stock.

Must be a fast taurus...I have respect for everyones cars...but i know how my talon runs..its not the fastest thing in the world but it does hold its own..as long as a cars on street tires ill run it...even if i lose it'll be a sick race...also the '95-99 nonturbo talons and eclipses have 140hp stock...they are heavier than the neon...usually a stock talon or eclipse those years would run a 16.7 all stock...but anyhow i got my new ignition in...works pretty good...time to boost the crap of it again..lol

Re:New homemade project

I thought 420a was a crappy motor for boost? Like real bad never holds up....

jester 09-09-2004 11:17 AM

Re:New homemade project

a stock one will generally break rods and blow head gaskets...but i have a low compression motor from howell automotive that has been made for high boost setups...my turbo kit is going to be homemade...unfortunately it was cheaper to just buy a complete setup

thats what i was thinking?

And yeah you have no chance in beating his Taurus..no chance at all...I bet my car on that too
