New to HMT
i just joined the site today and have been reading like crazy. I have 91 CRX Si with a b16 ( pics here http://www.crxcommunity.com/viewtopic.php?t=235) . Ive wanted to go turbo for a while but the lack of funds and knowledge have prevented me from doing it. I am frequent on the crx resource and crxcommunity and this site is highly suggested.
Now for the dreaded noob question....( i searched for 45 min here and another 30 on google). I was able to pick up a garret turbo today for $10. I need some help figuring out what exactly I have. Cast into it ...BSK 3 M27 A/R 48 Here are some pics of it http://img288.echo.cx/img288/8083/pic0076gq.th.jpg http://img288.echo.cx/img288/9683/pic0061ct.th.jpg http://img288.echo.cx/img288/6293/pic0058xm.th.jpg http://img288.echo.cx/img288/2859/pic0046xx.th.jpg http://img288.echo.cx/img288/5717/pic0038ux.th.jpg From what ive read, im thinking its a T/3 T/4, but Im not sure at all. |
Re: New to HMT
thats a t3 .48/.60
.48 stamped on the compressor, .60 stamped inside the turbine housing. |
Re: New to HMT
i went back and looked at it again, the pic cut off the number in the housing. It looks like a 63, then across from that is the number 1.
any idea on what this came off of, and will it be adequate for a b16? |

I would say that its going to be too small for a b-series the largest t25 that I've seen only flows 22lb/min of air so at best you'll probably on be able to make 220hp with it but even that is doubtfull. I would sell it on ebay or see if some d-series guy has too big of a turbo and would like to trade. hell I may even be willing to trade you for a .42/.48 t3. that would be a cool turbo for a bike. |
Re: New to HMT
Thats an .89 exhaust housing. Gonna spool late. Looks like it was from a diesel.

Re: New to HMT
what kind of condition is it in for $10?if its still good, you can def make your money back if you dont decide to use it
|
Re: New to HMT
Looks like some sort of T25 or T2.
in the picture with your hand, that turbo looks tiny. take a pic and put something next to it like a ruler or dollar bill. any measurements on the compressor inlet/outlet and wheel diameter? |
Re: New to HMT
Ok here are some pics against my tape measure. And for the condition, it has a rebuild tag on it, and still has some of the plugs in it. The guy said it was rebuilt but then never reinstalled. It still has some green paint on the bolts and on the fans ( i guess they do that when they rebuild? ).

Re: New to HMT
yeah it looks like it's never been run since the rebuild. well if you ask me that looks like it was on a little forklift or something it has a pretty large turbine side(in comparison to the comp side) and a small compressor. very common combination for industral equipment they use the large turbine side to control boost. I'd pop that sucker on e-bay and I bet you could get at least $100 for it on there. but for sure that will be useless on a b series.
