new here - just got a holset H1C

first things first - hi to all - im new here but not new to boost. I drive a 1990 240 with a sr20det (late model AKA black top/180sx). been running a T28 for a while now and i decided to buy a holset H1C.

just wondering if i can change the exhaust side with one from a regular T3? maybe a .63 or .82? i am worried that i wont be able to spool this big thing with the huge housing thats on it now (id like to see full boost by 4200).

I know a lot of you guys have B series motors that rev slightly higher than my motor - with less displacement -

so i guess i wanted to know where people are spooling the H1C's to 18psi and on what hot side?

i run short route piping on a T28 and i see 1bar prior to 3200rpm right now. mr davis, any experience with changing hot sides?

we have a F22B1 accord with a .50/.48 57 trim garrett with a 4 inch grooved housing... (makes 230whp@8psi and its at 11 now) would this turbo be better suited for that (it only revs to 6000 tho)

I doubt a t3 will just bolt right up.... I'd try it out first and see how you like it... those things love high boost

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

H1C's have a few different exhaust sides, I've got an 18cm^2, and am still looking for something smaller to run on a D-series.

The size should be cast somewhere into your exhaust side, if not Holset can get you specs if you give them the tag numbers.

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

my buddy has a HX35 and he had a mitsu housing on it (machined out) - it spools fast too....

is there a 9cm housing for a holset? or maybe i could use a 12cm from a hx35 or somethin?

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

I *think* there is a 12cm housing for the H1C, there could be a whole lot more I'm not really sure on the H1C.

Yes they make a few different housings go to bigdog performance they have the diesel stuff. The hci has a 1.0 housing hot side they have ones down to .70 i think those would work good for it..

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

Typically they're a T3 flange. You can adapt the HX35 turbine housings to the H1C. Do a google search for it.

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

you can buy the bullseye hx35 8cm housing and it bolts right up to the h1c i have one on my h1c and i start seeing boost at 2800 rpm they go for around $180.00 go to the bullseye website and go on the vendors you can get it internally gated or external..they also have it in stainless steell

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

i ordered the bullseye housing without a int gate for 170 plus shipping from theturbotrader.com

should be here soon i hope (few days) - ive already got a gate, manifold, and all i need are oil lines and i'll be good to go. gonna start out at 7psi - for a few days - then bang it up to 18. i'll break my new diff in on 7psi (doin figure 8's on 18psi smackin the revlimiter might be fun tho ;)

lol- im not being a punk... its gotta respond tho. and if it doesnt on the 16 (waiting on oil feed line and a adapter (m12 banjo > -4an) - ill go with ht e200$ bulleye that i already told em i want (but im not takin it if it responds)

who here has actually used a h1c with a 16 housing?

3tstarlet 08-04-2006 10:19 PM

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

bro just keep in mind that the 16cm housing is like a 1.00 A/R cause the bullseye one is 8cm and is .55 A/R so if you have a small 4 cylinder it will be a lot of lag 8)

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

lol. I just thought about that today. I think it might be smaller but i dont know. I'll have to email holset just to be sure. I will probably get the BEP housing. full boost by 3500 sounds good to me

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

"NEW 12CM UPGRADE non-wastegated TURBINE HOUSING FOR 88-2002 DODGE/CUMMINS
$175.00

For H1C, WH1C, HX35W model Holset turbos
This is a simple and inexpensive alternative to wastegated turbine housings that should provide a lot of performance for your dollar. It will increase boost and low-end performance on your stock 1988-1993 truck BUT you must move the downpipe rearward just over an inch.
*When installing this housing on 99 and newer HX35W trucks, you should purchase the angled exhaust outlet adapter supplied by us in order to ease installation.*
This housing won't fit 2000 and newer automatic transmission trucks because they use a Holset HY35 turbo instead of the HX35.
Specify the application you want to use this housing on and ask us about mounting flange and oil drain gaskets."

anyone familiar with making metal oil feed line out of metal fuel line and flare fittings?

i already bought a stainless line with a banjo bolt for my block and i'll have to get a restrictor and a -4an to go into the turby. just checkin - a guy with a pretty nice shop has it on his srt with a gt3076

whats so hard about it if you have a flaring tool?

steverino74 08-06-2006 07:14 PM

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

bought a flaring tool today -=- gonna make my feed line this week - and get it runnin on the new turbo off the wg spring til i can be sure its all good enough to open up ;)

seriously has anyone used the 16cm housing on a 2 liter at all ?

I used a Holset WH2D 17cm as a rear mount on my 05 GTO LS2. I couldn't spool it past 5 psi. I bought a HX50 thinking it would have a smaller exhaust wheel. NOT. Exact same compressor and turbine wheel.

Ive never used a 16 but I use a 18.5 on my 1.6 liter.

Dont be a -----. You've got plenty of rpm to spool it.

Honda heads are very efficent hence why we are using such beastly size turbo's. Most late model us production motors heads are total garbage compared to a basic honda sohc head.

Considering this post went from August 07 to curent December,

I'll post my Holset H1C 12cm^2 housing mod
Milled the external WG material, put the Vband over and housing in a oven till glowing red, MIG welded the ---- together and been rolling good now for a year. Milled the ---- off because of lack of room for the elbow Pie"whitey" bends to clear alternater backet on the h22

Re: new here - just got a holset H1C

You know something will ------- give out on me next, first it was the MAP sensor, The WG diaphram got pinched, then it went to the manifold, then rescently it was my Holset H1c. I've got an individual on stand by to tig up most of my intercooler tubing and relocate my BOV. Watch the WG need to be upgraded to a bigger unit. And my old Synapse 40mm is working fine on a DSM 17psi constant. GO FIGURE. But I'm still rocking their BOV, it's flawless piece of engineering.
