New!first post!
sorry guyss i'm a newb with custom turbos.i live in central ohio, so lemme know if your around me!after winter i'm swapping an ls in my 93 dx hatch, and plan to turbo it after that.my goal for the car is to be street legal/driven, but my main focus point is drag racing.how many psi can i safely push on my ls with stock internals and whatnot?what kind of hp/trq numbers can i expect with maximum (safe)boost?
i'm trying to compile a complete list of parts i will need to complete the task.as i said before, i know very little, so i will post what i know to purchase/upgrade,and you can just add to it....thanks everyone in advance btw...i'm leaning towards a t3/t4 turbo but suggestions are great, and of course, i'm not trying to spend a fortune... turbo wastegate intake manifold turbo manifold intercooler blowoff valve fuel pump boost controller injectors ok thats it, lol yeah i suck.oh and when making my downpipe and whatnot what kind of piping should i use? |
Re:New!first post!
you can do maybe 9-12 psi dail safely with good tuning....dont half ass that part or you will die......i mean your motor at least and thats where all you power # will depend on your tuning and fuel managment..and not to mention dependability(spelling)

Re:New!first post!
lots of stickers (yellow is best, they make you go faster) muffler with at least a 4" tip
punched out cat phantom slip LSD oil lines lots of guages, at least 3 for a pillar pod computer or some form of fuel management, i think an FMU and a bunch of check valves is the best way to go. if you do all of this with that turbo, turn it up to 35 psi, you should see somewhere in the neighborhood of 700 whp on pump gas. you can drive it hard all the time too! im just kidding, I have no idea...i just wanted to be the first to post some stupid crap and tell you to: SEARCH FIRST, ASK SECOND |
Re:New!first post!
terrible first post, search around a little and you'll find the answer to 99% of your questions

Re:New!first post!
sorry it just seems like everything is here and there, and there isn't really a listing of all the needed parts....
oh and i'm not new to this whatever scene you want to call it, i've had 2 hondas and i also own an 04 cavalier that is more show than go (flame if you want).i have knowledge in alot of areas, just turbos arent one ;) |
Re:New!first post!
ok close your eyes, take my hand and we'll go to turbo land. where you'll get your turbo installed for free and your car washed and waxed, along with a free handjob by Nicole Kidman, when you're blow off valve burst when you shift from 2nd to 3rd, you can burst too, and Nicole will smile and tune your fuel management with her right hand, while she strokes you with your left.lol

Re:New!first post!
OK, I closed my eyes..... are we there yet....

Re:New!first post!
I think what people are trying to say is, research like everyone else did. there is no 1 thread on this site that are "instructions" on how to construct a turbo kit.
you pretty much named everything that you needed, except for fuel management, and oil lines. now for your intercooler piping, you can use anything that will hold pressure. ive seen peoeple us pcv piping, "universal" coolant hoses conntected together, flex piping, but most use mandrel bent 2.5" piping. (exhaust tubeing) you can use whatever your little heart desires. |
Re:New!first post!
the thing is that you're asking every question at once.
"------ your hustle" one thing at a time. on a d16 10psi well tuned expect to see no more than 210hp. and you're missing the oil lines i think on your list. if you're gonna do this yourself, you're gonna need some welding for the charge pipes and the down pipe. not to mention a manifold. you're welcome on the site, but i don't think anyone here's gonna take up an hour to post step by step instructions. did you laugh at the Nicole Kidman joke?lol |
Re:New!first post!
ok, thank you.that was helpfull.as for the piping, is there a certain kind of metal that works better than others?or a certain thickness?i dont want pvc piping i know that.
and yes, i laughed HARDELY, HAR D HAR HAR :P |
Re:New!first post!
most of the people here including myself get the piping from jcwhitney 2 1/4" aluminized mandrel bent is good. just measure more or less by eye the amount of tubing aswell as the type of degree tubing you need. 45degree 90degee etc. after you gigure out where you're gonna mount your intercooler. for the oil lines, cheapest and strongest would be 1/8" npbt brake oil line(as in the brakes, inbetween the clutch and accelerator), it's gonns be a straight thin steel tube with threaded fittings that rotate at the end of the tubing, figure out what length you need and you can find it at any auto parts. you can bend this tubing by hand from the oil sending unit which you'll T off of to your turbo.
