New to boost.........

Hey guys, i'm in the middle of Turboing a D16a with z6 head.. I haven't started yet but here are the plans....Mitsu 14b turbo, no more than 7-8 Psi (Stock internals) 323 Gt intercooler, Feilds Vafc, DSM 450cc injectors, RRFPR, 1G dSM BOV.. Anyways, my question is, will the field controller give me enough adjustment (+/-%30), to run properly with the DSM injectors/???? BTW, i have all these parts already, so hopefully these will work well, if you see anything major wrong with any of these parts let me know...I'm not looking for huge power numbers, i just want something that will break into the 14's and be a reliable daily driver.....Thanx

it might work but from what everone says and what i think is that you have to go more than -30 on the afc in order not to trip the cel,but who knows give it a try...good luck and welcome

What is the Map bypass valve people are talking about??? What is the cost, will this work, what if i use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

Re:New to boost.........

if you try to do the afc hack you do not need any check valves if that is hwat they mean. check valves cost a few bucks at any pet store in teh fish tank section (i think) or you can get a nifty piece of metal that is drilled out for like 50 buks called hte missing link.

Sorry, what is an AFC hack???

Basically, is there any way i can have a smooth idle and power curve, with DSM injectors using a Feilds VAFC??? What will i need, how do i avoid throwing a code... Can this be done or should i pick up an Apexi?

Re:New to boost.........

i would suggest getting the apexi vafc since its easier to use and you gan go to 50 on the +/=.
i had mine set at 33 till 4200 then it went to 35 all the way across the board on both high and low vtec and neveer threw a check engine light, its basically tricking the map sensor to think you are not going into boost while at the same time you are controlling the injectors a good amount.
do a search on google should be able to find soemthing about it

I just spent $200Us on my Fields, know any cheap sources for an apexi??? If not, what are my other fuel management options????? Can i just use the stock injectors for now without throwing codes?

Re:New to boost.........

you can but i would suggest using the 450cc's, it could possibly work with the fields, just have not heard anyone using it with the 450's

Smokey, you can use the Fields controller, but unlike the Apexi controller it doesnt have the fine range of tuning the fuel control. The fields lets you adjust -30% to +30% and the AFC/VAFC lets you adjust -50% to 50%. We actually use the Fields Boxer controller on you Z6 Turbo Hatch with DSM 450's... works pretty well, I think the settings are around -26% at idle, runs pretty decent. Suprisingly we get a CEL (map code) when you get 8psi, which I dont even see how its ------- possible, since the controller is setting the voltage lower than 3.0v to the ECU..??? its weird, I know people that use the Apexi controller dont use Check valves with their setup. But with the Fields controller you will need to use a few check valves to keep the CEL off.

Good luck,
btw I will have a write up on this soon..
