new beater needs turbo. 8v golf ugly/ balls slow

new beater = mint 88 golf 5 speed 8v. i dont know anything about these and i tried searching vw honda tech (vortex?) but theres like 800 differnt sections audi vw vag mk5x3 mk2 and i have add

what junkyard turbo crap bolts onto this pile. i know theres parts that do isnt there? this thing is mint almost has 70k and cost less then my last speeding ticket.

ive been lookin for a 88-91 civic beater but im sick of getting beat by other craiglist retards to all the rusted our >$500 ones.

vortex has good info, it's just not in the normal volkswagen section. you have to go to the tech section to avoid the OMG BBS, stretched tires, badge less grill, JuR0pLaYTe, Üß3rTÜnar croud. There's still some homos in the tech section, too.

You'll also shatter your transmission. maybe try a cross flow swap for a bit?

I take back that tech ----. no one there has a ------- clue about anything they're talking about.

idk if this is completely true, one of my vw friends told me about it.

basically they also built a turbo diesel version of your engine. same block, forged internals, different head, same head bolt patterns. Look into getting the turbo setup from one of those, and swapping out the compressor housing. i think you have CIS, and they also put CIS on boosted audis, volvos, and benzes, so you can grab one of those and swap it out. That was his plan, but he never finished it (bought a G60, now sold it and back to his 85 GTi, which is now getting a turbo VR6), so I don't know for sure if it all works.

Re: new beater needs turbo. 8v golf ugly/ balls slow

ya i figured there was some ---- that bolts on cause this huge bently manual that was in the trunk has ---- for turbo versions.

so the transmission wont take any more power then stock? thats gay. im not lookin to swap anything just gona drvie this winter probly and garage the rwd car.

Re: new beater needs turbo. 8v golf ugly/ balls slow

any MKII turbo diesel exhaust manifold will bolt onto the stock 8V head, with some port work they match perfectly, but the stock digifant II computer usually doesnt like taking boost, i have only heard of one person running a turbo setup on the stock computer, also the tranny should be fine for now, but if you really want to you could probly swap in a turbo diesel 5-speed, almost every trans is interchangeable on MKII dubs.

if you wanna sell the car let me know :P O0 :1

its true...ask them if 15x9s will fit your car though, they WILL know the answer...

as for turboing it...i wouldnt waste my time for a daily... 88's should have CIS if i remember right, and even if it is Digi, its still gay... its gonna require a real engine management solution (getting rid of the stock ----)...

actually, maybe you can just do an additional injector setup... either way its an 8v and will still be slow...

oh and dont forget about the tranny...they are weak...

an 88 with big doors?? (no smokers window for you non-vw types) looks to be in great shape

swap a VR in there, its not very hard. prob on the same level as a b-series into a DPFI CRX/ED.

Re: new beater needs turbo. 8v golf ugly/ balls slow

I thought it was just the diff on those that are weak. My cousins diff blew and then took out the rest of the tranny and left a nice peek-a-boo hole in it too. It's been sitting for three years now with a nice ACT clutch and NS supercharger that have 5 miles on it after the tranny went. Lazy bastard bought a shitty old S10 and 7g's on a 06 GSXR instead of a few bucks to get a new tranny for it.

Re: new beater needs turbo. 8v golf ugly/ balls slow

tdi manis fit shitty and flow like ass. hand in hand with the tiny pos tdi turbos.

where its at is the audi 5k manifold modified by cutting and welding the 5th runner shut to use a k26 from a audi 5k or some of the old turbo porsches. or do what im doing and modify the audi 5k manifold and re-drill it to fit a t3.

the trannies arent THAT bad. they just suck a lot more than most.

Re: new beater needs turbo. 8v golf ugly/ balls slow

I hate VW's. The bodies and suspension are flawless... it's the damn drivetrain they can't get right. The transmissions are slushboxes, the engines feel and sound lazy, the engines are designed to be the biggest pains in the ass (VR6 spark plug changes for instance), the intakes suck on them... what else?

Here's what you do first to wake it up... give it a G60 head or just put a G60 motor in it, supercharger and all.

Re: new beater needs turbo. 8v golf ugly/ balls slow

i've got an '88 jetta with big doors, also the G60 s/c burns out too fast, and all you need is a rabbit GTI head or mkI jetta GLI head if your running an 8V anyway, bigger valves then stock

oh and i want that car :P looks mint

Re: new beater needs turbo. 8v golf ugly/ balls slow

VRs in those take away alot of the handling. I wouldn't suggest putting a solid mount on the trans right away either. My buddy blew out 5 trannys in his 88GTi before he bought a 90 an put everything in it except for the trans an block. We're pointing the finger at the no give mounts he had in it, it was a blast with them in there, but damn did it go through trannys

The SC just needs the routine conditioning every 100k like every other SC.
