need some opinions on sohc set up

ok, i might trade my boosted b16 crx for something a little newer and nicer, a 96 hatch with all the 2000 si conversion goodies and nice suspension and wheels, only problem is its a stock y7 :( but im sure i can cure that problem with boost, but i want to keep it cheap as possible and still be fast, my thoughts were add a y8 head $400, do a junkyard turbo set up like a 14b and std. mani. whole set up for like $800, but then its obd2 and i gotta do the afc hack for managment right? i suppose im cool with the afc hack, but how hard would it be to go obd-1 to use uber? just get a complete z6 head instead of the y8 and what else? anyone know what the power differences would be like between the two? c/r differences from y7 block and y8 head vs. y7 block and z6 head? and the c/r calculator wont let me select y7 pistons so thats why im asking...my biggest concerns are that i have always been a b-series guy, and im afraid i wont be happy with the power of the sohc, am i wrong? and that the puney rods and pistons in the sohc couldnt possibly hold up to boost like b-series parts do? and the b-series ---- dont even hold up very well...just looking for opinions on this mess...thanx....

well if you're going more than 10PSI and a shitty tune then it won't hold. But if you tune it pretty conservative it should hold 10, and still scoot. The AFC hack is pretty straightforeward but if you wanted to go OBD to run uber you're going to need an OBD2a-OBD1 conversion harness, and obviously a chipped ECU, uberdata, and a chip burner. I'd say get the Y8 head and intake manifold boost with the AFC hack for a while and then see what you want to do with it.

i was thinking exactly that 10 psi on a 14 b with the hack and some retarded ass dizzy timing with the y8 head, will it be fast and reliable?

should be. It's all about tuning, obviosly a nice dyno session will help out a great deal. Hell i know guys who ran the hack on 10psi, on ign retard and no dyno tuning, and got it to last like 3 years, although that may just be ---- luck. I'm gonna be shooting for around 10p with the hack and a nice dyno session. Haven't decided on what to do about the ignition though....

There is a guy i know with vitara pistons and eagle rods on a y7 with stock head (cams and all) in an EK hatch and runs mid 12's. Although he is on a T3 Super 60, I am sure that 13's (with a good tune) would be very feasable (my goals). Just get a OBD2a to OBD1 conversion Harness for about 75 bucks, a chipped p06 ECU, and if you are gonna tune yourself a chip burner and either uberdata or crome (Crome is free but the pro version with autotune is 150) and you are set. Hope this helped a bit.
