Need input for this turbo (PIC)

Today went to a yunkyard looking for a T3, and i found a turbo, looks like this one, is from a Mercedes 300 turbo diesel i think and is oil cooled only, also the wastegate came without arm, came in one piece with the turbo.

Any good?, also for $20 lol

For $20? Even if it's a piece of ----, you can always sell it for more :P

I'd pick it up if I were you.

EDIT: Wait, are you saying you already bought it? Either way... I say it's a deal for $20

Re: Need input for this turbo (PIC)

Yeah the merced T3 with an integrated wastegate??

That's good!! It's just like having a real piston actuated external wastegate!!! but it's internal!

This turbo has another MAJOR advantage: it's has the usual 0.48/0.42 a/r but the turbine wheel is much more efficient than your average saab or ford T3 !! THe turbine wheel major size is the same as stage 3 wheel!! and the exducer is the same as stage one!! So you have a much Higher trim! THerefore, better response!

Oh... that compressor is a joke though.... Needs to be upgraded to 60 trim 0.60 a/r... but for 20$, it,s a good pick for sure!!

Re: Need input for this turbo (PIC)

Just remember to feed it cool clean oil. Since its for a diesel it will need the extra cooling since gasoline engines tend to have a hotter exhaust.

Re: Need input for this turbo (PIC)

it should look like this one.
Except this one had a t04b compressor installed.

Re: Need input for this turbo (PIC)

Yes, that is the turbo, at how many psi are the wastegate set

Obscene_CNN 08-04-2006 07:52 PM

Re: Need input for this turbo (PIC)

If its off a early 80's 300D or 300SD the waste gat should be set to 9 to 11 psi if it is in spec. Since it has aged its probably around 7 psi. You can adjust it if you can figure out how to get the darn retaining spring out.

here is a link showing how

Re: Need input for this turbo (PIC)

i have installed THAT mercedes turbine wheel in an overbored saab t3 housing and a 60 trim compressor on my focus 2.0 and that thing spools up like a 1.8 T !!! Much faster than a stage 1 wheel would.

Re: Need input for this turbo (PIC)

Not just mercedes.
You can find these turbos on the international scout!!!
one of them, in 1980 only, was powered by a turbo nissan engine rather than an international harvester engine!!!
the good thing about this turbo: it'S 0.63 a/r !!!!! with that stage 3 wheel base!!
Again, the compressor is a tiiny 45 trim. it absolutely needs a t3 60 trim or t4 compressor to be fun.

WTF is an international scout??? it looks like this:

Re: Need input for this turbo (PIC)

hey the 0.60 60 trim compressor from the thunderbird slapped on that mercedes turbine will do a hell of a hybrid turbo!!!

Obscene_CNN 08-06-2006 10:06 PM

Re: Need input for this turbo (PIC)

I actually know someone who has slapped a 60 trim compressor on a Mercedes TAO301 turbo charger. He is quite pleased. He runs it on his turbocharged intercooled mercedes 300SD at 20 psi of boost.

Re: Need input for this turbo (PIC)

yeah it's a good, quick spooling turbo that is very happy in the 150-250 HP range and good for up to 280 HP. It'S IMO the budget HMT version of the GT2560R !!

If you can land me one, bro, I'll make it worth your while. I need something similar to what you have already been pickin'.
