Need help on turbo purchase - Dented FMIC, issue of concern?

Hello all,

This is my first post here. I've been reading a few articles here. Great website.

Hope you guys don't bash me for asking this newbie question.

I'm in the market to purchase a used Greddy turbo kit. I have a 95 Integra RS. AC, power steering, and smog legal are important to me, which is why I'm looking to purchase a Greddy kit. Both of the kits I'm looking at have FMIC's and I know that isn't "CARB" legal in CA, I'm not too worried about it.

I'm very close to purchasing a Greddy turbo kit from 1 of 2 members on Team Integra and Honda Tech. The setup between the 2 members are very similar. Only real difference is the intercooler. One has a Greddy 24 intercooler, the other from Spearco.

The Spearco intercooler is mint. The greddy is a different story. Here's a pic:

Is this something to worry about? Will it affect boost at all?

The reason I'm asking, although the kits are very similar, the price difference between the two kits is around 2-300.

One other thing. The kit with the dented intercooler, also has the greddy turbo where there is some nicks on the compressor wheel. Here's another pic:

The kit with the spearco intercooler...the turbo looks to be in mint condition. No shaft play or nicks on the compressor wheel. Anyhow, just wondering what you guys thought.

This is homemadeturbo not "greddy turbo kits.com". I say buy both of them so you can shove 2 turbo kits up your ass. swallow a knife.

Nah I think sitting on it would be more amusing.

I think that you're better off purchasing the kit without the dented intercooler, the chipped fins are probably not ideal either. I guess it depends on how much $ you want to spend.

if the intercooler doesnt leak its fine. buy the ----. run it. blow the motor up. repeat.

What's weird, and I probably shouldn't have done this, I posted the same question on homemadeturbo.com and all I got were two responses. One told me to swallow a knife because the website is called HOMEMADE turbo not Greddy. I mean, c'mon. If I would have stated that I'm looking at a turbo kit with a dented up FMIC and an 18G turbo, would they have given me the same flaming BS? Bunch of idiots. Its a turbo. Who cares if I did it homemade style.

Another person called me a N*GGER! What the hell is that all about? Bunch of racists if you ask me.

The GD and porn/fab forum I can understand flaming trolls but if they want tech help... why not? :1

For example... that turbo is probably fucked. Refer him to Blaast to get it rebuilt... we get sponsor money, servers get paid for, everyone is happy.

Save and get the kit with the turbo that is in better shape, check it before you buy it though. Don't want to buy something thats ----. Spearco intercooler definately helps that sellers case.
As for the GReddy kit, well, it sucks. With/without a dented intercooler.
::)
I'm a n00b to turbo's too, and I already know this. Where have you been?

Wow, I actually received some good advice here. Glad to see there's some helpful guys here.

I went ahead and told the guy with the messed up intercooler that I'll pass on his kit. I'll be purchasing the other kit on Wednesday.

And to the racist guys, its all good. Doesnt really matter to me what you guys believe in or not. But I must say, the porno section is freakin AWESOME! I finally found a password for bangbros dammit! haha

I'm trying to be somewhat smog legal, so the Greddy fits my tastes. Though, this is "homemade" turbo, I thought I'd ask you guys for some advice. All good.
