Default Nearly Ready to start on the turbo project

hey,

after much much much much research i nearly have what i need to start on the turbo project,

the engine im attempting to boost is a 3.8L V6, ive got half a spare one of these in my garage, the heads are being reworked and im cutting up the inlet manifold to change the direction on the Throttle body,

anyway, you can swap the headers round to face the front due to their design,

all i need to fabricate first off is a downpipe and a extension to the headers to the turbo its self with a adaptor plate, ill be using exhust piping from another one of these engines from the wreckers.... need to find someone with a pipe bender first

at the moment im really only limited by money, been in/outta hospital a fair bit lately and trying to get money together...

the turbo i intend on using is a T3/T4 AR.60-80,

there was a similar project to this, the car was pushing 340rwhp when completed on only pretty much a rebuilt engine, rockers and a new cam shaft @ 11psi intercooled and ran 11s 1/4 mile

what makes this install special is i intend on running it with LPG (trying to find a good place to get the 110octane propane mix not the 97octane propane/butate mix)

ill be starting this project later this year watch out for it!!!!!!!!!

i need some idea's to make this really home made style to cut costs, not corners..
is a BOV %100 nessecary on low boost?? my mate doses his turbo, sounds funny but probbly roots the turbo,

the current LPG system installed is a Gas ring system installed just before the throttle body, the fuel pressure goes in @ 20psi which compared to the standard 17psi of my injectors whcih probbly only put through 15psi due to their age..

my question would this be enough pressure for a good boost level

initially ill be running just the turbo, with a internal wastegate handling boost and a boost gauge so i can ajust boost correctly

im planning to rebuild the top half of the engine next year but looking to get the system operation at the moment, then push the boost levels up gradually as i feel its safe to , ie blow off valve, intercooler, stronger head gaskets,

i also intend on rebuilding some spare engine heads i have in my garage with new valve srpings, a acid bath and some head porting stay tuned for progress!!!!

BOVs are cheap and easy to install, I say just get one. A gas ring system? Never heard of it unless it just isn't called that. We usually just use bigger injectors but since this is a MAF car (right?) you can use an AFC or the like and you won't have anu map sensors to trick.

Whether or not you need a BOV depends on what psi you run and the size/length of your induction tubing cuz that determines whether your compressor is likely to stall on overrun. Considering the majority of factory turbo cars don't have one, yet the turbos last 80,000-100,000 miles (usually at 6-8 psi) I'd say you don't need one if your running that sort of pressure. If it turns out you do need a BOV, it's not exactly hard to install one later on.

Dunno about the fuel pressure . I'd have thought the amount of fuel your injectors can flow is more important than the pressure??

Good luck with the project.
